How to Install vara CHAT PAREDN - Philippine Amateur Radio Emergency Data Network

Now that you have your VARA FM sound modem working, it's now time to use it for VARA CHAT app. You can use VARA CHAT for on air Chat and/or for file transfers.

Step 1. Download the VARA CHAT . Skip step 1 -2 if you already did follow the previous presentation on installig VARA FM.

Step 2. Create the following folders in your C drive. C:\VARACHAT

C:\VARACHAT\

Step 3. Go to your Download folder and Run (VARA Chat v1.3.4.zip). Click Next on following Installation window and Browse to the correct folder, Create a Desktop Icon and Click Install and launch program.

Step 4. Click Finish and the VARA CHAT application will run.

Step 5. Click on Settings then CHAT Setup.

Step 6. Command TCP Port 8400, VARA FM Mode, Your Callsign, may keep Downloads default location or change. VARA FM Modem Location . . . choose the other folder we created from our previous presentation on installing VARA FM. (C:\VARAFM2\VARAFM\) . Click Update.

Step 7. VARA CHAT with VARA FM will now both open. You will know if both apps are TCP connected when you see the TCP Green indicator. To test if PTT setting is correct, click on CQ button. This will send a CQ VARA FM transmission. ( >CQ de CALLSIGN time stamp ) . You can now start an on air QSO with another VARA FM Station. Please make sure
