Term 2a, week 2

English: Traditional tales
We continued our work in English about traditional tales. The focus was listening to and familiarising ourselves with lots of different traditional tales. The class did this independently by scanning a QR code with the story they wanted to listen to. Everyone rated the different stories they listened to. This will be beneficial for moving on to writing our own traditional tale next week.
PSHE and computing: Online safety
In the afternoons, the focus of the week was computing and PSHE. A lot of time was spent learning about different aspects of online safety. We discussed how different things we do and see on the internet can make us feel and what is best to do if there is something online that makes you feel sad or angry.
After discussions as a class, we went and worked in pairs to complete an activity about asking permission for posting and sharing content online. This is another really important aspect of online safety and giving consent.
After this, we moved onto different ways of communication. We listed all the devices that can be used for this and how social media can also be used to communicate. As a class, we wrote down all the different forms of social media we are aware of. We then guessed how old you have to be to use these different websites and compared it to the rules - there were quite a few surprises for some!
Still focusing on communication, the class learnt all about email. They then used a paper template to write an email to someone in class. We scrumpled this up and threw it to the person in the classroom we were trying to ‘send’ it to. As you can imagine, it’s a lot easier to send a real email!
Building on this, we spent a lot of time practising logging onto our school email. This is connected to the pupils teams account and is for school purposes only. When we were all logged on, the pupils wrote a positive email to someone else in the class. This was a lovely activity to practise typing on an iPad and writing an email. You can see their kind emails on seesaw!
