Searching For The Stars By: Ray Adrian Guevarra

Light is a big factor in how society runs. Whether it be enforcing traffic regulations, lighting up the night sky or advertising products on tall buildings, the uses of artificial light all contribute to one thing: light pollution. As a result, those who live near cities or brightly-lit suburban areas tend to fail to admire the beauty of the night sky. I myself was lucky enough to have been exposed to the stars at a young age. However, many may not have had that experience. Searching For The Stars is an adventure to find something that is there, but also hidden. Through this project, I aim to shed light on the detrimental effects of light pollution on our ability to appreciate the stars. It serves as a visual reminder of the destruction of natural beauties in trade for other things seen as beneficial to society.

About The Artist

Ray Adrian Guevarra is a 17 years old Filipino-American with a strong passion for photography. He is currently a junior attending the Academies @ Englewood in New Jersey. From a young age, Ray fell in love with the way photography could be used to capture memories and tell a story. His favorite part is how something so ordinary can become so meaningful through a photograph. Growing up he aspires to continue photography and tell many of his stories through it.

This project was created in Future Imagemakers in the NYU Department of Photography and Imaging at Tisch School of the Arts in Spring 2023.
