Middlebury College has a long-standing history of excellence in athletics and is known to have one of the most successful programs in Division III. The school boasts 44 National Championships since the NESCAC lifted its ban on NCAA play prior to the 1993-94 season and has won 105 NESCAC Titles. Middlebury has produced 41 Individual NCAA Champions, as well as 42 Olympians. The Panthers took home the Learfield Directors’ Cup in 2011-12, awarded to the school with the most success in NCAA play, and has finished in the top-10 places in the cup standings for the past 17 seasons.
Athletic Facilities
Middlebury's well-maintained playing fields and outstanding athletic facilities rank among the best in the country. The College boasts an 18-hole golf course and 3.5-kilometer Red Kelly cross-country and jogging trail on campus (background photo below). The nearby mountain campus includes the Middlebury Snow Bowl for alpine skiing and Carroll and Jane Rikert Ski Touring Center for nordic skiing. Outdoor facilities boast impressive views of the Adirondack Mountains and the Green Mountains, while the 2015 addition of Virtue Field House gave the school 110,000 square feet of indoor space, including a state-of-the-art squash center to go along with the hockey arena and Olympic-sized swimming pool.
