UDIS NEWSLETTER ISSUE #9

K2: Creating our solar systems Requirements - In our Unit of Inquiry, K2 has enjoyed learning about planets and the solar system. The students created their own image of our solar system by splattering white paint to represent the stars. They then used balloons and paint to produce accurate representations of all eight planets. Very messy!
Y4: Learning about the Arctic - Y4 has been learning about the Inuit people who come from the Arctic Circle countries including Canada, USA, Greenland, Russia, Norway and Sweden. Inuit life is adapted to their extremely cold and snowbound environment. They hunt for caribou seals. walruses, whales, seabirds and fish. They kill only what they need to survive and they use every part of the animal for food, clothes and tools. The children have learned a traditional Inuit dance to perform at our Global Winter Festival..
Y7/8: Dutch pancakes - In Mr. Barend’s class our Year 7/8 Language Acquisition students were learning how to create Dutch pancakes. During this lesson the students were developing their vocabulary skills and English speaking skills by creating their own cooking videos and demonstrations.
Languages at UDIS - Wild animals Well done Year 3! Learners successfully completed their projects about wild animals and were able to present them with confidence. I am really proud of all of you.

Welcome to Mr. Henry in K2

Henry is our new K2 teacher this year and joins us from Newcastle in the UK. He has taught in a variety of countries around the world including Thailand, Saudi Arabia and the UK. He loves to spend time with music and playing the guitar.

Y9/10 - I&S projects

Year 9 and 10 students have been presenting their individuals and societies research projects to PY learners. This was a good way to help students become effective communicators and critical thinkers because they needed to think of their audience and how to break down complex information so that it will be understood by the PY learners.

We are really excited putting this together to complete our school from Preschool to Year 13. The Diploma Programme will be an important part of our next 5 years as we get this programme authorised and ready for our first intake of students in 2024/2025.
