Tēnā koutou katoa and welcome back to Term 3. It was great seeing all the smiling faces on our students as everyone returned to school on Monday morning. A very special welcome to Nathan who has joined Kikorangi and Taylor who has joined Kākāriki this week. We look forward to formally welcoming you and your families on Monday morning next week.

Lots of information in today's newsletter, starting with lots of media for you to devour from our Matariki evening last term and then sharing some important dates for events coming up soon.

Thank you all for being part of our Matariki celebration at the end of last term. The children all performed so well, the shared kai was delicious and it was a lovely way to end the term together. Photos from the performance can be accessed at this link and have been put together into a highlights package below:

For those wanting to rewatch the performance with their families, here is the full video of the Seven Fish of Matariki performance:

And a final Matariki link, to the video montage that was screened on the night explaining the meaning behind each of the stars in the Matariki constellation.

Board Election

This term we will be running an election for our Board of Trustees. This group of people help support the school leadership and ensure effective running of the school so that your children get the best possible learning outcomes.

Parents/caregivers and people in the wider community can be parent representatives. School boards need to represent the diversity of their school communities to ensure a bright future for all our children.

Please think about whether you or someone you know in the community may be the right person to help our school grow. More information about this will be out by August 10th, but if you have any questions, please just talk to Steve.

Joyful Jolly Jumping June has been upon us so it's time to celebrate all of the skills we have learned with our skipping last term.

The prize window opens on Friday (21st July), so you will be able to order prizes from this date for a week (until the 28th July). Instructions for doing this should have been sent to your email, but if you need any help, or have any questions, please contact Lisa Everett: lisae@nukumea.school.nz.

On Wednesday 26th July, Nukumea Primary would like to invite you to a little celebration of our achievements. If you are free to come to school early at the end of the day (from 2.30pm), we will be showing off the skills we have learnt. There is no pressure if you can't make it, we will be taking a few videos and posting them up on Hero. If it is raining on Wednesday, we will postpone to the next day - Thursday 27th July - at the same time.

Thank you so much for getting behind this movement. Our little school has raised $1090.00 for the Heart Foundation, which is a HUGE achievement.

This winter, between Monday 12 June and Saturday 30 September, participating community pharmacies in Auckland will provide a Minor Health Conditions Service for Māori and Pacific people, children aged under 14 years, and community service card holders.

The service allows pharmacists to have a clinical consultation and provide advice as well as medication if needed for a select set of minor health conditions no cost to the patient.

It also includes whānau members of a child with similar symptoms. For example, if the pharmacist determines your child needs treatment for scabies and they have older brothers or sisters, or you yourself also have symptoms, they may provide advice and medication for all of you.

The following health conditions are included in the Minor Health Conditions Service:

  • Acute diarrhoea
  • Dehydration
  • Eye inflammation and infections
  • Scabies
  • Headlice
  • Pain and fever
  • Eczema/Dermatitis
  • Minor skin infections

Learning Conferences will happen on Wednesday August 2nd from 3:15-6:30pm.  These conferences will be 15 minutes long, with your child's whanau teacher and are based on the information shared in their report at the end of last term.

Our Senior Leadership Team will be available to supervise any siblings in Karaka, so that you can focus on the learning conversation with your child and their teacher.

Booking information will be sent out next week, but please add this date to your diary now.
