🐟 The Pacific Remote Islands (PRI) contain some of the last wild and healthy ocean ecosystems in the world where wildlife like this thrives. Protecting areas like PRI that are able to withstand the effects of climate change due to location and natural features may be our best chance to preserve intact ecosystems and the species that live there.
By supporting this effort, you will help to preserve wildlife found nowhere else on earth for generations to come.

I / [organization name] support expanding protections of the Pacific Remote Islands!
🪸 The Pacific Remote Islands contain some of the last wild and healthy ocean ecosystems in the world where sharks, rays, whales, dolphins, turtles, and seabirds thrive.
Please consider joining the @PRIcoalition and using your voice to urge the Biden Administration to protect this precious part of the Pacific. Our request includes:
➡ Expand the protection of Howland and Baker Islands, Kingman Reef and Palmyra Atoll to 200 nautical miles, the full extent of the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone to protect terrestrial, nearshore, pelagic, and deep sea ecosystems.
➡ Rename this area to reflect the significance of the PRI area in Pacific Islander cultures.
➡ Adopt a co-management model so that traditional ecological knowledge and modern science can be at the forefront of ongoing and future protections for the Pacific.

With your help, we can work together to protect the Pacific Remote Islands, a place of vast historical and cultural significance.
From the past and future of Pacific Islander voyaging to the contributions of the Hawaiians who claimed the area for the U.S. during WWII, PRI is rich with story and history.
More than 130 young men, mostly Native Hawaiian, made up the Hui Panalā'au. Sent to Howland, Baker and Jarvis from 1935-1942, they enabled the U.S. to claim jurisdiction of this area in the Pacific. In ancient times, PRI had a rich history of oceanic voyaging, serving as stopping points for Polynesian voyagers. Today, PRI has the potential to become a premier education site for Pacific Islander voyaging.
To perpetuate these cultures and traditions, it is critical to protect these ocean ecosystems from further human impact.
