GRADE 3 CAMP It’s the Grade 3 students turn next week as they head off to Arrabri Lodge in Warburton East for their camping experience – two nights and three days. We wish them good weather and a fun time as they take part in activities including climbing the rock wall, giant swing, flying fox, orienteering archery, mini golf and damper making. Many thanks to staff and volunteer parents for giving up their time so willingly to make this camp an adventure to remember.
THANK YOU We have an enterprising group of Grade 4 girls who came up with an idea a number of weeks ago to fundraise for a very worthy cause. Their initiative was to sell bookmarks, key rings, fidgets, scrunchies and similar items with all proceeds to go to supporting the people of Ukraine via Red Cross. Presumably, some of the business expenses were bankrolled by a parent or two, but nonetheless with the girls’ amazing enthusiasm and selling acumen they raised $1027.50 for the cause. A fantastic effort, girls!
SCHOOL COUNCIL A reminder that the August School Council Meeting is set down for next Tuesday, August 9 from 7.00pm in the staffroom.
FOUNDATION 2023 TRANSITION EVENTS The first of our 2023 Foundation transition events takes place next Tuesday, August 9 with Storyland in the library between 9:30am to 10:30am.
After Storyland, the next two events are:
- Mathsland - Wednesday, 24th August in the Gym Foyer
- PMPland - Tuesday, 6th September in the Gym
PLANNING FOR 2023 We really do start planning for next year around August each year, with numbers of enrolments firming up, contacting staff on leave and so on. With the added, but pleasant, complication of building works we will be kept on our toes. Thank you to parents who have completed enrolment procedures for siblings or advised us of intentions to move by the end of the year – that information really helps and we encourage anyone else who hasn’t completed either of those two tasks to do so at their earliest convenience.
Enjoy your weekend – the lengthening days are becoming very noticeable!
Kind regards,
Bill Kersing
Principal
FOUNDATION 100 DAYS OF SCHOOL CELEBRATIONS Today was certainly exciting for our Foundation students and their families as they celebrated their first 100 days of schooling.
Congratulations to all the students and our wonderful Foundation Team of Kelsey, Bessie, Ellen and Amanda who organised a very special day. The students enjoyed dressing up in their party clothes, making their 100 days crown, sharing a special picnic lunchbox and enjoying maths and literacy activities based around 100.

Celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day - 4 August Children’s Day is a time Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities and all Australians, celebrate the strengths and culture of our children. It is an opportunity for us to show our support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, as well as learn about the crucial impact that culture, family and community play in the life of every Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child.

Parents and Friends A huge thank you to the 6 parents who came along on a chilly Tuesday evening to the Parents and Friends Meeting. Particular thanks needs to go to our school’s Parents and Friends new office bearers.
- President: Kate Doran
- Secretary: Jacqui Thurlow
- Treasurer: Narelle Manton
We need some parental help with the two events we have planned this term. At the time of writing, we have less than 5 parents to help with the BBQ at the Disco (Friday 9th September). The Father’s Day Stall (TBC on Friday 2nd September) will also need volunteers in the lead up to, and on the day. Please contact the Office or see the Compass notifications that have been sent previously.
Year 3 Camp With our Year 3s on Camp next week, there are some changes to the specialist timetable. Your F-2 and/or 4-6 child may have e.g., PE, on a different day than what they normally do. We wish all Year 3 students, staff and volunteers who are attending the best of times next week. Arrabri Lodge is a great camp!
Have a great weekend.

HELP NEEDED – SECOND HAND UNIFORM SALES We are seeking a parent volunteer to man the second-hand uniform sales at the school every Friday for half an hour at 8.45am to 9.15am. Please contact the office if you are able to help. Thank you
LATE ARRIVALS Please ensure children who arrive late go straight to the office to be marked as present. If the child does not come to the office for a late pass a text message will be sent to the parent/carer notifying that the child is absent. Late arrivals can only be time stamped at the office. When Parents/carers record the late arrival in Compass it provides us with the explanation but does not mark your child as present. When your child presents at the office, staff will record your child’s actual arrival time which updates the class roll.
EMAILING TEACHERS DIRECTLY A reminder that you can now email your child/ren’s teachers directly, if you do not have their email address, please email the school account viewbank.ps@education.vic.gov.au to request the teachers’ email.
WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECK (WWCC) A ‘Working with Children Check’ is just one part of creating and maintaining a child-safe environment. It is a requirement that all parents/careers who wish to volunteer or participate in school activities have a current WWCC. https://www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au/
Kind regards,

Victoria will celebrate Principals' Day on Friday 5 August 2022. This is an opportunity to recognise the contribution principals and assistant principals make in schools. It is a wonderful way for school communities to say thank you to those special people that have devoted themselves to the enrichment of our children during their most formative years.
Those of us at Viewbank Primary School see the fruits of Bill, Gill, and Patrick’s labours every day. We see it in big statements like the upcoming building project or the core values of the school. We see it in ongoing efforts like the hour spent ensuring that we have enough teachers or the planning that goes into lessons and camps. And we definitely see it in the little things. Those things that can make a world of difference to a child at a time when it is needed most. Many Viewbank parents will have heard stories from their children about a kind word when they were down or recognition for work well done that has that special impact because it came from one of the leadership team.
The last few years have brought more than their share of trouble to the world. Viewbank Primary School was no exception to this, but we have been fortunate too. Our school pulled together, headed by its leaders, to whether the storms of lockdowns, remote learning, and illness, and to come through stronger than ever.
The members of the school council are privileged to get a peek behind the curtain, and see some of the work driven by Bill, Gill, and Patrick. We see the devotion, experience, skill, compassion, and tireless energy they bring to the school, and we are very grateful.
For myself, I can only give my heartfelt and earnest thanks to Bill, Gill and Patrick. Also, to remind them of the special place they hold in the hearts of hundreds of children now at school, or those that look back with warm, fond memories of their schooling that they helped shape. I can think of no better testament to a principal than that.
If you see one of our principals in your travels, I encourage you to let them know how appreciated they are in whatever way feels right to you.
Thanks,
Jason Hemingway - School Council President
Part-time cleaner wanted for Viewbank Primary School ISS Facilities Services are seeking motivated and enthusiastic part-time cleaner to join the team at this wonderful school. Please call Bikram Tiwari on 0427 882 052 for further information.
Book Week 2022 Book Week will be celebrated in the week beginning Monday 22nd August this year and VBPS has two events to celebrate, with the theme being ‘Dreaming with Your Eyes Open’. On Tuesday 23rd August, students are invited to come to school dressed as a character from their favourite book. A whole school costume parade will be held on the Tiger Turf (weather permitting) from 9:00-9:45am which the school community is welcome to attend. As it is winter, please ensure students are wearing appropriate clothing and footwear. Whilst Wally was successfully located last year, it appears he has gone missing again and we will be asking the students to join us on a Where’s Wally Hunt around the school during Book Week.
Our second event is a visit from Dale Baker (author/illustrator), who will be speaking to the Foundation to Year 6 students on Thursday 25th August over 6 separate sessions. Each session will run for about 45 minutes. No payment is necessary as the cost has been included in the Term 3 expenses.
We look forward to celebrating Book Week onsite this year!

School disco helpers needed. We are in search for some helpers to set up the bbq area from 3.30 to 4.30 the day of the disco. Kids can be there and have a play on the playground while the adults get it set up.
We are also in need for some BBQ helpers between 4.30-7.30 if anyone is free. They are in hour blocks or feel free to do a couple of hours, we will appreciate anything that you can do.
Parent helpers at the disco are required as well. The tasks include supervising all doors (so no students can leave), supervising the toilets and drink tap area, signing the students in and out when parents arrive to collect them as well as monitoring student behaviour. And just general looking out for students that may have a question or need some help with their dance moves!!!!
We have a few names down and we thank you for that but we still need more. Jump on the compass site and book in for a time that suits you.
Please note all parents must have a working with children check prior to the event and they need to be registered at the school office prior to the night.
