beginning of the year screeners

Students in Kinder through Fifth Grade will be administered universal screeners in Reading and Math three times a year (Beginning, Middle and End of Year). The Beginning of the Year Screeners (NWEA MAP for Math and mCLASS for Reading) are diagnostic assessments that will be administered by their teachers between August 29th and September 12th. These screeners provide invaluable information to teachers, since it allows them to determine students' strengths and possible areas for growth. Please take a moment to discuss with students the importance of always doing their best so that the assessment accurately reflects their present levels. Students do not need to study or prepare for these assessments, since they are screeners intended to gather information. We are focusing on growth thoughout the year and this data provides us a baseline.

apex fun Run fundraiser

We are excited to partner with APEX Leadership once more for our school's fundraiser. We will have three APEX Coaches with us during the next two weeks discussing leadership traits, motivating students, and helping them come together as a team. The fundraiser will run from August 29th until our Fun Run on September 8th. We are designating 50% of our proceeds to Student Activity Fund and 50% of the proceeds to Teacher Activity Fund/School Improvement Projects. We will provide more information about the Fun Run (September 8th) as we get closer to that date. Due to the heat, we may need to have the Fun Run indoors in our gym. We will kick-off the event with a video tomorrow.

Thank you for your support in our fundraising efforts! We appreciate it!

parent information night

We will hold our Parent Information Meetings this Thursday, 9/1.

We have changed the time to 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. and the meetings will be "virtual". We will be sending out the links before the meetings.

Each grade level will have three different sessions in which they will present the same information (5:30-6:00, 6:00-6:30 and 6:30 - 7:00 p.m.) You will be able to select the session(s) in the order that best meets your needs.

VISITORS/VOLUNTEERS

Please remember that student safety is our number one priority. All visitors to the campus, without exception, need to ring our doorbell at the front doors to request access into the building. You will need to state your name, name of student, and reason for the visit. All visitors need to provide a valid picture identification to be processed through the system and obtain a visitor's pass. This visitor's pass/sticker (or volunteer pass) should be worn in a visible area at all times. Visitors must exit through the office area and turn in their visitor pass/sticker. For safety reasons, we need to know who is in our building at all times.

No visitors will be allowed for breakfast, but will be allowed for lunch. We have many students in the cafeteria before school starts, so we ask for your assistance in making sure that we can manage the quantity of students safely. Please remember that only those individuals listed on the student's registration form will be able to have access to students during the day to join them for lunch or pick-up.

Conferences and volunteer opportunities need to be pre-scheduled with the teacher/s or through our Corey Cubs PTA volunteer program. If you haven't done so already, please consider completing an AISD Volunteer Application for this school year.

There should be no un-scheduled visits to classrooms - even from volunteers.

school safety

We are coming together as a community to make our schools as safe as possible. Please make sure to follow all the guidelines that we have provided when you visit our campus. Arlington PD will also have a greater presence around our various schools. You may see police cruisers parked in our driveway at times as they visit our campus and make security checks.

As part of our efforts to keep our students safe, we have scheduled drills that we conduct. Mrs. Anthony, our Assistant Principal, does an excellent job in coordinating our drills. Please remember that we will have Fire Drills every month, as well as other drills such as Lockdown Drills, Weather Drills, Shelter and HAZMAT drills.

Please take a moment to view this video provided by Arlington PD explaining the difference between Lockdowns and Shelters in Place.

Also, please take a moment to look over AISD Safety webpage. It contains definitions of the types of emergencies, district protocols, Security Tracker, FAQ's and other important information

food and nutrition

Please see important information below about school meals:

"During the pandemic, the Arlington ISD was able to offer no cost meals to all students due to temporary program flexibilities provided by the federal government. These flexibilities have expired. In the 2022-23 school year, schools are required to return to charging for school meals on the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) based on program eligibility."

Please see application link below for the Free and Reduced Price Meal Applications.

If you need to add money to your child’s account, please see information below about the “PayPams program”

You can also access the daily menu for Corey Academy at the link below. The price for breakfast is $1.55. The lunch price is $3.05.

If you need additional information, please visit the Food and Nutrition Services webpage.

birthdays at corey

We wanted to remind everyone about our policies about celebrating birthdays at Corey Academy. We want all students to feel special on their birthday, yet want to make sure that we continue to maximize instructional time and maintain all our students safe.

  • No "edible" items should be brought to school (cupcakes, cake, pizza, etc). You may send small items that are not edible, such as pencils, stickers, etc. in individual "baggies".
  • Please coordinate with the homeroom teacher if you need their help in distributing an invitation to an off-campus celebration. They can place the invitation on the Class Story in Class Dojo, or hand out when it's a convenient time. If invitations will be distributed at school, ALL students need to be included. Otherwise, please distribute invitations off campus.

Please see message below from Nurse Jennifer:

Good afternoon!

I hope you all had a great first few days of school. I am so excited about this school year! I wanted to share new COVID-19 guidelines for the 2022-2023 school year since I have had a few questions. This year we will be having your student stay home for 5 days if they test positive for COVID, with day zero being the first day of symptoms. For example, if you started to feel sick on a Sunday, then that would be day zero. We would then count five days after that (which would Monday- Friday) then it would be the next day that would be the day you would return. In this example that would be a Saturday, so you would return that following Monday.

We will not be sending out notifications for close contacts this year.

The district will continue to have a Rapid Testing Center available for students and staff at the district Athletic Center. Please see the below flyer for more information.

We are trying our best to continue to return to "normal" this year. We are looking forward to a great year as we know students do best together with their teachers and friends at school. Let me know if you need anything at all. My email is: jsmith52@aisd.net and my number is: 682-867-3906.

Thank you!
