Dear University community,
We’ve got an incredibly busy week of University offerings that provide multiple opportunities to immerse yourself in truly insightful experiences you’ll only find at TAMIU. I hope you’ll join me!
- Monday, March 27 – A special lecture with three authors focuses on the Bengali Diaspora -- the immigration of Bangladeshi immigrants and their children from the South Asian country -- and issues of belonging and identity. It’s free of charge and open to the public at 6 p.m. in the Academic Innovation Center (AIC), room 126. Here’s details.
- On Tuesday, March 28 – The College of Arts & Sciences’ departments of Humanities and Social Sciences present a free lecture on gender violence and human rights in Latin America as part of a panel delivery for Women's History Month at 3 p.m. in the Academic Innovation Center (AIC) 126. Find out more.
- On Wednesday, March 29 –From 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. we’re celebrating Community Engagement Day. Visit the Student Success Center Courtyard, Rotunda, Memorial Garden and the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library to participate in activities hosted by UNIV 1302 students. Among the engaging community issues are public health, women's rights, social justice, and course topics.
- Part of Community Engagement Day is The Human Library, an interactive event focusing on holding personal conversations that challenge stigmas and stereotypes. It’s returning to TAMIU for the second year. It’s on from 3:30 - 6:30 p.m. in the Great Room of the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library. Find out about it.
- I’d like to recognize all of the students, faculty, staff and alumni that joined us this past Saturday for The Big Event. We had a record turnout of over 520 students, faculty, staff and alumni. Together, you generated 20,800 service hours, a monetary impact equivalent to $475,000. The weather was fantastic and about 150 trees have a new home thanks to TAMIU efforts. Visit a photo gallery here.
- Kudos are also in order to our Dr. F. M. Canseco School of Nursing students who assisted admirably in our USDA Listening Session held Tuesday. And congrats to our Communication program for its hosting of our first-ever Broadcast Education Association (BEA) BEA Day with Maegan Vazquez, a Laredo native and current CNN White House Reporter.
