Students express their style at Winter Formal by Josephine velo

On December 4th in the Loy Norrix cafeteria, students arrived at the tower showing their vaccination cards or negative COVID tests, and started climbing the stairs up to coat check. Winter formal started at 8 p.m. and wrapped up at 11.

With shiny pieces of streamers hanging over the cafeteria entrance and pumping dance music, the party was off to a great start.

Junior Inez Doezema came to Winter Formal wearing a black moon printed dress from Forever 21. She accessorized with a green necklace and bracelets on each arm.

On the side of the dance floor, sophomores Stephanie Garcia (middle) and Amelia Gougam (right) stood with Doezema. Both Garcia and Gougam wore sparkling dresses which were right on theme for the night, and added on some layered necklaces.

Sophomores Ruby Berg (left) and Ellen Terzino (right) swirled around on the dance floor. Terzino found her long green dress at Anthropologie and said that she gets lots of fashion inspiration from actresses.

From left to right, sophomores A.J. Dodge and Myles Frazier stood happily in their formal attire. Dodge chose a J.C. Penny dress and Frasier wore his $200 black and blue suit.

Junior Kallista Westervelt matched her purple hair with a sparkling blue dress from Shein and accessorized with a string of pearls. Westervelt explained that she gets a lot of fashion inspiration from her mom.

Fitting in with the "under the stars" theme, Westervelt wore silver moon earrings that stood out in the crowd. Similar to Doezema’s moon and star dress, moon jewelry and moon printed clothes are definitely in style.

Freshman Rishard Westervelt relaxed in the hall outside the cafeteria, where drinks, cookies and other refreshments were available. Rishard wore a vest from his uncle to the dance and said he had a great time.
