2021 Graduate Spencer Jackson accepted a position as the physical education teacher at Griggs Road Elementary in Clover, where he also works as the Clover High School Head Mens Golf Coach.
Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end. From Graduates we also met new faces this year.

In the adventure facilitation course, students go beyond the classroom by participating in a variety of outdoor pursuits to prepare them to teach these activities to the next generation.
Our local teachers have come out to support our students by sharing some great games and instant activities!
The Olde English Consortium came to Winthrop for the annual Physical Education Conference!
Over 250 Physical education teachers from area districts came to campus for a day filled with professional development specifically for PE teachers.
Molly Garrison was our first Aspire candidate, she completed her internship as the teacher of record at Geiger elementary in Ridgeway, SC.
Student Activities Resumed
Our majors planned and led a future professionals workshop for SCAHPERD this fall!
Hosted at USC Upstate students from WInthrop, Coastal Carolina and USC upstate gathered for a day of learning and community building.
Winthrop Students Garret Bowers, Seth Jackson and Lynde Beaver were on hand to facilitate the days activities.
SCAHPERD 2021
WInthrop brought nearly twenty students to SCAHPERD this year!
Students traveling to SCAHPERD this year not only competed in Superstars but also presented several sessions across the conference program.
Back to the beach for superstars!
Our majors finished 3rd in the annual Superstars competition.
The superstars competition included
- Invasion games
- Student designed games
- A dance competition
- Cognitive exam
Winthrop Students Garrett Bowers and Wyatt Olson worked behind the scenes as the SCAFP president and Vice President to organize and put on the annual superstars competition.
Student Awards
Garrett Bowers received the SCAHPERD president's award for his service to the profession, and was recognized at the annual awards banquet.
Majors Advocate for Health and PE at Shape America’s annual speak out day!
In an effort to educate members of Congress about the importance of a well-rounded education within the bi-partisan Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) leaders from Winthrop PETE program are advocating virtually to Congressional Offices on Capitol Hill to advocate for full funding to support professional development for teachers and health and physical education programs in schools.
