Travelling back in time… Week 6

This week, we put on our historian hats and traveled back in time with a new friend, Wizzy the Time Travelling Wheel. Wizzy is over 6,000 years old and he took us on a fantastic journey to learn all about the invention of transport!

We started our week by looking at timelines to see how long ago Wizzy was invented. The children were amazed to discover that his first adventures were on slow, bumpy horse and carriages - so different from the fast, modern transport we see today! Afterwards, we zoomed forward in time to learn about two local heroes, George and Robert Stephenson and their amazing invention: the steam locomotive! This sparked some brilliant conversations in class…

Some of us commented on the bad smoke coming from the steam trains, while others were excited about how this invention changed travel forever as we jumped to the present, where we explored electric trains like bullet trains, which are faster, cleaner, and more efficient.

These discussions helped us prepare for a Town Hall Meeting on Wednesday, where we travelled back in time and had a lively debate about whether steam trains were a good idea. It was fantastic to hear everyone listen to and respect each other's opinions.

The Town Hall Meeting debate really sparked our imaginations, as we used our discussions and differing opinions to inspire writing about whether the invention of the train was a good idea or not.

We hosted another Hooks into Books morning this week! We welcomed a new book called The Smart Cookie, where we learnt about the importance of always trying our best in school. After, we enjoyed some book related activities with our grown ups and friends.

What a fantastic week! Well done everyone.
