Note from our Head
Dear Oakfield families,
It's been another wonderful week filled with lots of fantastic lessons, experiences, workshops and trips all across the school. A special thank you to Mrs Fidler for orchestrating, organising and inspiring such an incredible Summer Exhibition last Friday that showed Oakfield community's creative spirit is more vibrant than ever. It was a very special occasion that both raised spirits and a lot of funds for our charity partners VICTA.
Unbelievably there are only 2 weeks left of term to go and I look forward to seeing many of you at the events we have lined up before we break for summer. Until then have lovely weekends all.

SUMMER EXHIBITION
The Summer Exhibition was absolutely brilliant and together we raised over £2k for VICTA from parents donating to take their children's work home and from bidding on artworks in the fantastic auction led by the irrepressible Mr Allen. Whether your artwork was solely for display, sold for £10 or sold for £950 thank you so much to all our Oakfield community for contributing your time, effort and artistic endeavour. Keep calm and paint on!

HISPANIC DAY
This has been an amazing day with the school off their normal timetable to devote to learning about the Spanish language and cultures throughout the Spanish-speaking world. There have been art projects, flamenco workshops, reading, writing and so much more. Olé!
Year 6
Diploma Wellbeing Group
The Year 6 wellbeing diploma group visited the foodbank this week to remember that doing good, feels good. They weighed their donations (almost 40kg!) and had a guided tour of the warehouse.
We learnt how people can be referred to the food bank and how it is purely run by volunteers. We looked at examples of shopping lists and how they varied depending on the size of the family and their kitchen options.
The children helped to make up some parcels and order the food on the shelves by checking the sell by date of some food items.
Acting Workshop
Actor Tom Read Wilson came to visit us this week to support Year 6 with rehearsals for their end of year production. The children thoroughly enjoyed perfecting the opening song in Act One, as well as using physical theatre in Act Two.
Many thanks to Tom for his time and enthusiasm, as well as Mr & Ms Brunson for helping us to organise this workshop.
Year 5
Forces of Nature
Year 5 have been looking at pulleys and levers to see how forces work.
We made little frogs move up as you pull the levers against each other. Very creative!
In Humanities we are continuing our Greek topic with Theatre. We looked at the Acropolis, who Socrates was and made masks. We started to act out different myths using both tragic and comic masks!
YEAR 3
Magnet Mania!
Over the past couple of weeks, Y3 have been learning about forces and magnets in science. From making magnetic slime to floating paperclips, this spooky group have been toying with mighty magnetic forces!
Geometry Genius!
Some of our Year 3s have been busy constructing 3D shapes putting their geometry knowledge to the test. Watch out world, we have some awesome architects on their way!
Year 2
Thesaurus
During English the Year 2 children worked in pairs to understand what a thesaurus is and how it works. They used the thesaurus to find synonyms. The children used a thesaurus or a QR code using the iPads to find antonyms too! The children have extended their vocabulary this week. A wonderful job!
Capacity
This week the Year 2s have been learning all about capacity. The children can measure different amounts of liquid and compare different amounts using mathematical language. Some of their results were very interesting. The children figured out that some container sizes and shapes can be deceptive!
The children also enjoyed learning outdoors and using water, buckets, cups and containers.
YEAR 1
The Year 1 children enjoyed their taster session on the Prep side. They were wonderfully behaved at lunchtime and impressed all the lunchtime staff with their polite manners and tidying up. The children had so much fun making new friends with children from the other year groups too at playtime!
LOWER FOUNDATION
A well-deserved morning of fun at Kids Space!
The children demonstrated all the 6 values of Oakfield:
Challenge, Care, Collaboration, Creativity, Courage and Curiosity.
It was wonderful to see everyone so happy and full of excitement - and this includes the teachers!
What a wonderful year we have all had - your children should be feeling immensely proud of themselves. Well done all!
SPORT
Cricket
Great captain's performance and match report from Jack in Year 3 and a very deserving Sports Star of the Week!
