Dear University community,
Welcome back to the start of the Spring Semester 2023!
- We’ve been busy readying for your return, sprucing the campus up, and compiling a special Spring ’23 Preview website. Take a look at what we’ve planned for this semester, including interviews with our Deans.
- Our Welcome Back Week has a full schedule of activities including archery, dance classes, laser tag, and more that you’ll want to check out. This provides a great opportunity to get to know the campus, and get your semester started with fun. Check out the schedule here.
- Also this Spring, we’re introducing TAMIU’s “Beyond Online,” a new series of online courses designed to astound, entertain, and intrigue.
- Three courses will initiate the new TAMIU Beyond Online Series include ENG 3371, “The Magic of Harry Potter,” CRIJ 4340, “Serial Killers in Film,” and CRIJ 4324, “Media and Crime.” The Class Plus Initiative can provide course cost assistance for students enrolled this Spring. Late registration continues through Monday, Jan. 23.
- Globally acclaimed musician Valerie Dee Naranjo is set to perform during an upcoming solo percussion concert Wednesday, Jan. 25, at 8 p.m. at the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall. Admission to the concert is free and open to the public. Here’s more.
- On December 7, 2022, Governor Greg Abbott issued an order to all Texas state agencies (including Texas A&M International University) banning the use of the social media platform TikTok on State networks and State-issued devices. The Governor has indicated this ban was implemented because of the threat of nation-state actors gaining access to critical U.S. infrastructure and information.
- TAMIU has complied with the Governor’s order and continues to be committed to the protection and security of all information resources used by members of the University community: students, faculty, and staff. While this ban does not affect personal devices, individuals will not be able to access TikTok’s services on campus using TAMIU’s network. Find out more in your Blackboard Announcements.
- COVID-19 remains a threat here, across our State, nation, and world. Recommended face coverings/masks, and rigorous hand-washing can help reduce your exposure risk. Learn more about free on-campus testing. If you haven’t already, bookmark our COVID-19 Response Center.
We're glad to have you back at TAMIU! Go Dustdevils!
- Pablo Arenaz, Ph.D., President
