Happy National Assistant Principal Week
- We celebrate Dr. Downes completion of her first week as a member of the Cab Calloway Administration Team.

- Remember students are still required to perform the Daily Self Screener:

Sean’s House Assembly Reflection and Resource
- The Administration and Staff Support Team (School Counselors, Psychologist, Behavior Interventionist, Nurse, Social Worker, and Constable) will continue to discuss our plan of meeting the mental health needs of our students.
- The presentations, content, professional organizations will be shared with students, staff, and students before the presentations with an opportunity to opt-out.
- Additional supports include a mindfulness Schoology page, mindfulness lessons by counselors, our Bring Change 2 Mind club, Paws with People dog therapy, implementation of Middle School Social Emotional Curriculum and access to school counselors.
- The group has been and will continue to partner with various outside agencies and supports to bring regular support internally (such as regular therapy dog visits in the building – stay tuned for details!) as well as future field trips and speakers to provide instruction and resources to both students and families related to lowering mental health stigma, building resiliency, and improving social/emotional functioning.

April 13th: Middle School Resiliency Training
- Please read the attached permission slip that will be sent home regarding the details of the Resilience Training.
- Students will receive a resiliency presentation from the National Guard as well in the theatre.
- School Counselors/Administration will review with our Middle School students, our Calloway School Wide Expectation Matrix below.
- We will leave CAB for the trip at approximately 9:15am and return at approximately 1:30pm.
- Students not going on the trip will be provided asynchronous work by their teachers to complete here in school.
Parking Passes and Driving Privileges:
- We have received several complaints from our neighbors for parking illegally along side of N. DUPONT road and the Cannery.
- If your student needs a parking permit, please apply using the link below.
- Any car without a parking pass will be endanger of being towed.
- These spots are assigned to students earlier this year who paid for their parking pass.
- If your student is driving a different vehicle, please have your student share with the front office.
- New Castle Police will be issuing tickets for students who park illegally on N. DuPont Rd.
- A meeting with Senator Sturgeons office, Wilmington Police, Building Administration, and District Operations to discuss parking, safety (U-Turns), speeding, and traffic flow with our neighboring Stores.
- Cease and desist from making U-Turns. We had two students injured due to a recent accident last week.
School Wide Expectation Assemblies Protocols
Assemblies serve to reinforce school wide expectations, provide enrichment opportunities aligned with our mission, and to inform our students about resources available to help them be successful students here at Cab. The following protocols will be provided to parents, students, and staff before each assembly.
- Request, review, and share all content with staff, students and parents before each assembly with an option to opt out.
- Utilize mutilple modes of communication to share assembly content or agenda to students, parents, and staff including Schoology post, Dean's Memo, and School Messenger.
- Utilize the student focus groups meetings to give students shared input on how we will proceed with addressing the issue of mental wellness in our building.
- Ensure that all assemblies, interventions, and resources align with researched based practices.
- Consider the timing of presentations (after a performances, before performances, before testing)
After-School Activities: Activity Coordinators
Our activity coordinators are assigned throughout the week (M-TH) in support of supervising our extracurricular activities after school.
Please see the following student expectations :
- Students must report to their assigned activity by 2:30 PM.
- Students are required to sign out and sign in when leaving campus.
- Middle School students are not permitted to leave campus to go to the store.
- The below QR code will be used to keep account of students leaving campus without permission.
- Please note: Cab Calloway is a closed campus.
- Students are recommended to bring snacks or plan to purchase items from the Snack Shack or Vending Machines.
Community Reminders:
- All students must have a hall pass to go to any assigned area.
- Any student found on campus without an assigned location will be subject to consequences outlined in the Code of Conduct.
- Parents, we do not provide after-care here in the school. Students being picked up after school must be picked up by 3:00 PM.
- Students being picked up from after school activities must be picked up by 4:30 PM or immediately after the end of the activity.
- No student is permitted to open the door for any student once the doors are closed during the school day unless supervised by an adult.
- Students found opening doors for other students will be subject to consequences.
Science Olympiad
- Congratulations to our students who competed.
- Our 6th/7th team, nicknamed Acers, finished 9th out of 27 teams in the state.
- Our 7th/8th team, nicknamed Radium, finished 4th in the state!

- Senior Ashley Bao is this year's winner of the Better Business Bureau Education Foundation Student Ethics Scholarship.
- As a recipient of the Student Ethics Scholarship, Ashley will be officially honored at the BBB's 57th Annual Celebration on May 5th.
Chase Seiffert And Ava Barton
- Chas Seiffert and Ava Barton's work, Dams: Pros and Cons (Film & Video), was selected as one of the Delaware Regional Scholastic Art Awards' American Vision Nominees.
- Each region selects five works to nominate for the American Vision award.
- Think of this as a best in show type of award.
- One of the five nominees were selected by the National Scholastics program to represent the Delaware Region.
- They won NATIONAL GOLD KEYS and A NATIONAL AMERICAN VISION AWARD! See their national winning video below.
Ida Rosenblatt
- 8th grader Ido Rosenblatt Won a National Silver Medal for his steampunk sculpture! WooHoo!!!
2022 NHS Induction Ceremony
- CCSA NHS chapter inducted 95 students this past week.
- The induction ceremony honored all of our new inductees for meeting the criteria of scholarship, leadership, community service, and character.
- During Student Leadership Week, the week of April 25-29.
- Theme: “Trailblazer Leadership” NHS will be engaging in student focus group discussions with administration and other student leaders in support of school climate and culture.
PTSO Volunteer:
- We are requesting volunteers to help with our PTSO sponsored Snack Shack.
- The store is opened M-TH from 2:30-3:30 PM to offer students a viable option to obtain food after school hours.
- The Snack Shack eliminates the need to leave campus to go to neighboring stores.
- NHS students can receive payment for working the store. If you are interested email Caitlin.kelly@redclay.k12.de.us
2022 Cab Calloway Joseph Masiello and Linda Emerick PTSO Scholarships
- Objective: The Joseph Masiello and Linda Emerick PTSO Scholarships were set-up to honor two outstanding members of the CCSA family and their years of service and dedication to the Cab Calloway student community.
- Two $1000.00 Scholarships will be rewarded to the top two applicants based on the qualifications and requirements below.
- Submit a typed application to Mrs. Rigby no later than 2:30 PM on Friday, May 13th
Cab Calloway School Fund Association Scholarship
- We are going to extend the deadline for the scholarship apps to April 30th to give students, teachers more time to apply or recommend.
- Seniors last day is May 27, 2022.
- Please save the date for the Class of 2022 Graduation on June 3, 2022.
- Graduation is scheduled for 7:00 PM at Cab Calloway in the theatre.
- Middle School Moving Up Ceremony is scheduled for June 8, 2022. Start time TBD.
