Filing for Nomination to the Town Council is Now Open
On November 8, 2022, Portola Valley voters will elect three members to the Town Council for a four-year term. The nomination period starts on Monday, July 18, 2022, and ends on Friday, August 12, 2022. If an incumbent chooses not to file nomination papers within that timeframe, the deadline to file will be extended an additional five days to August 17, 2022, at 5:00 p.m.
Issuance and Receipt of Nomination Papers will be conducted by APPOINTMENT ONLY. Please set up an appointment with the Town Clerk for both issuance and submittal of nomination papers. Issuance of nomination papers is being conducted virtually via Zoom meetings. To schedule an appointment to pull or file nomination papers, please email Melissa Thurman, Town Clerk at mthurman@portolavalley.net.
ELIGIBILITY TO RUN FOR TOWN COUNCIL
Any member of the public who meets the requirements below may run for office in the Town of Portola Valley
- Be at least eighteen years of age
- Be a citizen of the United States and a resident of the State of California
- Be a registered voter of the Town of Portola Valley
State Legislation Reports from Town Lobbyist
The Town contracts with Cruz Strategies, a government relations and public affairs consulting firm, to provide state legislative and budget updates for the Town.
Representatives of Cruz Strategies regular update the Town Council at three council meetings a year:
- November Study Session in advance of upcoming potential bills and state budget
- March update on bills and budget proposal
- July update on bills and adopted budget

Goats Along Sequoia Trail
Have you seen the goats near the Sequoia Trail in the last couple of weeks? They have been clearing the weeks to help with fire mitigation. They clear out tall weeds and low-hanging vegetation and can get into places where mowers can’t go.

Wildfire Preparedness Committee Tip - Eucalyptus and Wildfire Danger
The Wildfire Preparedness Committee has created a series of tips to help the community prepare for wildfire season. You can see the current tip and download any past tips on the website.
Upcoming Events
July 26 - Bystander Intervention Training
Senator Beckers office is hosting a Bystander Intervention Training, conducted by Usmaan Alloo from the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) San Francisco Bay Area, and sponsored by the San Mateo County AAPI Task Force, the San Mateo API Caucus, and AAPI Silicon Valley.
Experts will share their perspectives on what residents in San Mateo County and Santa Clara County can do to keep themselves and their loved ones safe, as well as how to safely and nonviolently stand up for our community members if an incident should occur.
July 30 - San Mateo County’s 18th Annual Disaster Preparedness Day
This is a family friendly event where you can explore fire trucks, SWAT and other Emergency response vehicles, experience the smoke tunnel, meet Bomb Squad Robots, attend classes on CPR, First Aid and Stop the Bleed & more, discover school & community safety resources, and come home with essential supplies. This is a free event at the SMC Event Center from 10 am until 2 pm. For more information, please see the website at https://smcdisasterprep.org/ .
August 6, 2022 - Neighborhood Clean-Up
The next Neighborhood Clean-up Day will be Saturday, August 6, from 8 to 11 am. A postcard was sent to each household with more information on what is accepted at the event. Please bring the card with you to get entry into the event.
September 17, 2022 - Town Picnic & Zots to Tots
Save the date for the Town Picnic and the Zots to Tots fun run on Saturday, September 17th at the Portola Valley Town Center. Join the Family Fun Run and Bike Race. It ends at the picnic where you can rest up, get a bite to eat, and enjoy all the activities. Kid's activities could include face-painting, a petting zoo, pony rides, and more. Bring the whole family for a day of fun at the Portola Valley Town Center!
