Run, run….check the map! Term 2a week 3

The Gingerbread featured again - a coupe of problems……he was worried about getting wet, and also was unsure how to get home safely. We looked at different features of a map and designed a route for the gingerbread man to take home. We drew houses, rivers, pathways and castles.
Maths is everywhere…… we do have direct maths learning and teaching in Reception class. However we also learn a huge amount through our play. This week we have played bingo games to identify 6,7 and 8. We have also developed our understanding of length, measuring different pieces of string. We made sure we were accurate and measured from the beginning of the object, making sure we could count the cubes.
Testing different materials, to help the gingerbread man. He was very concerned that he would get wet again as he crossed the river. We thought long and hard about this and developed our understanding of waterproof. Using new vocabulary and a scientific approach to testing. Watch this space to see if we are successful! In addition we have used the new technology area to strengthen our muscles, develop our fine motor skills as well as using our imagination and having fun making, designing and adapting models. We also used our story maps to support our writing. We used a repetitive sentence, used our phonics to count the sounds and then write it on our whiteboards. We are extremely proud of our work.
A fresh and cold. Ironing at Gibside. We walked through the walled garden identified some trees and found lots of mole hills. It was great fun running the length of the walkway in Gibside. We finished the morning in the park, developing our collaborative skills and large motor muscles. We also popped into the chapel , we were surprised how tall the ceiling was. We were very respectful.
