What a brilliant first week! The children have settled so well into their new classroom and have been an absolute pleasure.
This week we have focused on getting to know each other and becoming a team in Year 2 to develop a sense of belonging. The children created a mural together by drawing themselves, their favourite things and things that they are interested in. It was a really nice way to get to know the children in class.
We also talked about different emotions and read the story, The Colour Monster. The children loved this story and thought about different colours that could represent different emotions. They sorted these colours into jars and drew some great pictures, especially focusing in on how they felt about being in a new class.
We also discussed the importance of rules and then came up with our own class rules for Year 2. I was impressed with the children’s ideas and the main focus was towards respecting one another, differing ideas and being kind.
We also talked about how we are all special and unique. Recognising while there are some similarities between people, that there are differences that make each person so special for example their individuality, personality, traits, likes and dislikes.
Carrying on with team work the children worked in groups creating some great 3D models. I saw lots of sharing, taking turns and supporting one another.
To end the week the children thoroughly enjoyed playing games, where they followed instructions and showed me how well they could listen and work together. Even Willow joined in😀
Well done Year 2, you have all had a brilliant week! 👏
