UDIS NEWSLETTER ISSUE #4

Pre/K1: Life cycle of a butterfly - As we come to the end of our first unit ‘ How we express ourselves’, learners have made connections with the learner profiles and key concepts. We explored stories and enjoyed discussing the life cycle of a butterfly, including exploring real caterpillars and how they built cocoons for themselves.
Y1: Learning about each other - We have come to the end of Unit 1, where the children have been ‘making conclusions’ on the hobby or interest they have explored during their research project at home. All the children did really well! E.g. Fuji taught us how to count to 10 in Chinese, Jack showed off his football skills and Simone demonstrated her ballet moves. Well done Year 1 for your presentations.
Y3 class: Structures and buildings - Y3 finished our UOI about the design of structures and buildings. Students inquired into how structures take different forms (sizes and shapes), are for different functions (what they are used for), and how we have connections to some structures and not others. For example, Y3 is connected to Thai traditional houses because they are Thai and live in Thailand. Here are some examples of the wonderful models the students made as part of this unit.
Y5/6: Long division This week in - Year 5/6 we have been developing our skills around the procedures that help us to complete long division problems. It has not been easy but we are starting to master the strategy!
Year 9/10: Ecofarm projects - During design class, the students are busy collaborating and coming up with their own design for the UDIS Eco farm competition.

Student success: Pennueng in Y2

Penneung regularly competes in golf tournaments. Recently, he came first in his age category in national competitions in Bangkok! Congratulations Penneung!

We have had different activities this week to help us learn some new sounds and sight words. We have also made connections with how we are demonstrating the traits of an IB learner in our daily life. We played ‘charades’ and we had so much fun acting out the different attributes to help us get familiar with the learner profile vocabulary.

Student council leadership workshop

The Student Council participated in a leadership workshop organised and run by Mr Barend. During this workshop the students were able to develop their problem solving and communication skills so that they can lead their school community to a better future.
