About Dr. Park Me in 2023

I will be working on a research project involving im/migration in both Korea and Japan over summer. Looking forward to sharing what I learned after my field trip in the fall of 2023.

Hello! This is Dr. Park (or Professor Park). I will be teaching SO100 Intro to Sociology, SO304 The Family and SOAN362 Research Methods this semester - SOAN300 K-Pop & Beyond and SO319 Food & Culture (Spring 2024) - SOAN300 Travel Portion - Study Abroad to Korea, Summer 2024).

I am very excited about this semester because it is a great time to utilize sociology to our everyday life. During the semester, I will demonstrate how sociology can help you understand yourself better. Sociology can be a useful framework to make sense of your mundane life since it examines how the social world influences the way you think, feel, and act.

This semester I will lead a local cultural event, Japan: Haru Matsuri in Topeka, with help of Japanese students and my SO319 students. Topeka Haru Masturi (Topeka Spring Festival) will showcase a wide array of Japanese culture including traditional games and Japanese food. In addition, my students in SO310 will host SO310 Annual Diaper Drive. All donations will be delivered to Community Action, Inc.

I was in Korea this summer, 2022. On the left, I visited HYBE, Multinational Entertainment Company, and the BTS museum. BTS belongs to this company. On the right, I am standing in front of Mr. Tall Guy with embedded 50+ countries' flags in Wongok-dong, Ansan. My research revolved around a growing number of foreign migrant workers in Korea.

My goal for this semester is to bring more K-culture on campus. I would like to work on K-festival@Washburn with my students inĀ  October (tentatively 10/10). At the K-festival, students will have the opportunity to play K-games including honeycomb and flipping cards along with tasting K-food.

In addition, I will be work on my research projects including multicultural towns in Korea & Japan and a tentative study abroad program to Korea: Exploring Korea Past, Present, & Future in Summer 2024.
