June is Men's Health Month

June is Men’s Health Month. Did you know, according to the Centers for Disease Control, men are 33 percent less likely to visit a doctor than women? It’s true but those statistics can change for the good as we embrace our DC Values!

This June, take the opportunity to either go to the doctor or encourage the men in your life to take care of their bodies by eating healthy, exercising, and applying healthy habits to prevent disease. Having conversations about the importance of preventative health care such as screenings and annual exams is a great starting point. There are several ways we are promoting Men’s Health, join some of our seminars and trainings this month: such as learning how to mitigate the risk of heart disease, prostate cancer, or diabetes.

Check out our list of FREE upcoming wellness activities to help you create a healthy lifestyle:

Understanding Broken Heart Syndrome

June 21, 2023 | 1:00PM - 2:00PM

When we think of a broken heart, we may immediately think about our own experiences or stories from movies, but we may not think of it as an actual physical problem. A real-life broken heart can actually lead to a cardiac consequence called broken heart syndrome.

Broken heart syndrome is a temporary heart condition that's often brought on by stressful situations and extreme emotions. The condition can also be triggered by a serious physical illness or surgery. People with broken heart syndrome may have sudden chest pain or think they're having a heart attack. It can affect part of the heart and temporarily disrupt the heart's functioning.

In this session, we will further explore what broken heart syndrome is, its impacts to our body, and how we can prevent it.
