WHY? The skills, knowledge and experience that all learners gain within this AoLE will equip them for lifelong learning.
What? We aim to improve engagement and learning, through mathematical fluency and a holistic approach. In fulfilling the four purposes we set high expectations for all and educate our learners in their quest to become healthy, confident, ambitious, enterprising, ethical, and informed citizens. Our goal is to develop their skills of resilience, quantitative analysis, and rational deduction in order to develop a mature understanding of the world around them. We shall strive to ensure all learners achieve their potential with the delivery of a broad and balanced mathematical provision. Through the key ideas and principles contained in the ‘What Matters’ statements this will support learners and the wider school community.
HOW? Learners will receive an organised and structured programme of study, provided and facilitated by an experienced team of professional teachers.
The Experience: In the Mathematics and Numeracy AoLE you will experience a rich and varied programme of study. You will develop your mathematical skills and learn how to apply them in a variety of settings. You will work towards qualifications in Mathematics, Numeracy, and Financial Studies. Your progression in Mathematics will be organised around four key principles:
• You will learn about the number system. You will develop a thorough understanding of relationships between numbers.
• You will learn the language of algebra. This will enable you to express mathematical relationships in their most general form.
• You will learn about shape, space and measurement. This will lead you to a more advanced understanding of geometry.
• You will learn how to deal with information. This will improve your data handling skills and your understanding of probability.
Your teacher will guide you through a wide range of contexts in which mathematics is used to increase your skills, knowledge and experience.
