I've spent the last few months photographing my friends. At first there wasn't a theme. I just took photos of them and tried to keep most of them candid. Early on I wasn't yet sure what I wanted my project to be about. I just knew I wanted my images to evoke feelings and a sense of nostalgia. So I kept going out with my friends and mostly shot outside at certain times of day to try to achieve a warm and familiar lighting. As I thought more about this project, I realized that it feels like my whole life I've been obsessed with memories and the past. And then it hit me: this project was for me. It was my attempt at capturing what it feels like to be a teenager through my eyes. I hope that these images are something that one day I can look back on and sort of travel back to when I took the photos and feel again what I felt that day.
This project was created in Future Imagemakers in the NYU Department of Photography and Imaging at Tisch School of the Arts in Spring 2023.
