K1: Inquiring minds - During one of our online sessions, we have been inquiring about different materials. We started by looking at floating and sinking, and looked around our homes to find things that float and things that don’t. We have been sharing our thoughts and trying to understand the deeper concepts of what is going on.
Y1 class update - Y1 Class has been exploring various celebrations and how important they are to our culture. We have been inquiring about the current Chinese New Year: The year of the Tiger and what that means to many people around the world. Y1 has been busy creating its own holiday for February 23rd and we will celebrate “Chicken Day”. We have been busy designing cakes, creating art and decorations and we are even making our own Chicken Pinata.
Y4: Investigating spending equity - We have been learning about how the distribution of wealth affects communities and individuals through the role of government. Learners have inquired into how governments spend tax money and developed their own posters illustrating their own fictional run for Udon Thani mayor and the choices they would make. Voting was opened to see who might be the winner!
Y7: Getting into play -  Play is so important for all the children at UDIS and our Year 7 learners really enjoyed celebrating Global Play Day this year. The most popular game of choice was UNO. Global Play Day has allowed the learners in our class a fun opportunity to have some enjoyable social interactions with one another and to develop more community.

Student success: Vanilla in K2

Vanilla has been a part of UDIS since K1. She has always had an excellent attitude to learning, which has continued during online learning. Vanilla always completes the activities set each day and also challenges herself, especially with her phonics. She is an excellent example of the learner profile in being principled, open-minded and a risk-taker.

EAL at UDIS: What are you wearing?

What are you wearing? Our learners in Year 5 have been getting more familiar with using clothes vocabulary in speaking and in writing. We used simple adjectives and the sentence structure "He/She is wearing ____" to describe what someone is wearing. We enjoyed designing new clothes for the character 'George' in the story "The Smartest Giant in Town".
PSPE: Learning about wellbeing - In addition to our practical activities, EY students had a chance to learn more about wellbeing and how to keep ourselves healthy and clean during COVID. We talked about daily healthy practises that will protect our little learners, such as washing hands, brushing their teeth, drinking lots of water and making sure we exercise our bodies regularly.
