Assessment 1

For my first assessment, I chose to make a short lyric video of Juice WRLD's verse from his song 'Wasted'. This song is slow and melodic, but its beat is relaxing and almost euphoric. The song is playful and gives me a relaxing, floating type of feeling. The verse also makes reference to Juice WRLDs drug use which would allow me to create interesting trippy effects.

Beginning my composition, I decided to hues pink, purple and blue hues as the psychology of the hues are calming and tranquil which I associate with the lay the lyrics are being delivered. I also added a glow effect the text to make it pop and not look so static and boring. This also works well with the motion blur from the fast moving elements. With the elements moving fast and the lyrics of the song being various lengths depending on the flow, the timing of the elements was important. I used easy ease on the position and scale keyframes and adjusted the graphs until they were suitable. I decided to layer all my text layers to give off a floating / trippy effect behind them. I did this by firstly, animating the text, then duplicating it and offsetting the underneath layers by 1 frame.

With this lyrics being held longer than the rest, it was again important to make use of graphs to control the timing. I gave this lyric a more exciting transition with it being fixed to a path. I then duplicated the layer and put a track matte on the layer behind. I used a colourful trippy hue shifting video to add extra colour and movement. I then used turbulent displace on the top layer to be able to reveal the colourful tracked layer behind. Also included in this scene is the CC Particle World effect. This allowed for me to create explosive particle effects coming from the centre of the composition.

The lyrics "She Medusa" sounded like the slipped right off the tongue of Juice WRLD. I decided these words need an interesting transition. This transition was made by making the layers '3D layers' and adjusting the x ,y, z position keyframes. I lined up both words to make them seem apart of the same 3d rotation.

The next lyrics to the song were Juice WRLD referencing his 'drugs' and I wanted to exaggerate this word with an interesting transformation. I wanted to make the word look trippy and began with editing the scale from 0 to 150. I applied a track matte to the outline of the text and had it expand before the top layer to exaggerate the colour and emphasise the word. I then added a transform effect the the text and manipulated the y axis and slowly change the opacity of the white text layer. Having only the colour text layer visible was easier to reveal the next lyric and it wouldn't be lost in the white background.

I began experimenting with a camera and 3D layers to reveal the next lyrics. I changed the z axis value of every word and had the camera move from the front of the composition to the back. I used a top view to adjust the distance of the words and the speed of the camera to be able to reveal the words in time with the lyrics.

Hold Up! In this part of the verse is a shift of tone. Juice's delivery is no longer monotone which I represented by a colour change into warmer temperature colours. This continues for the rest of the song. This transition was a simple scale manipulation with a 'turbulent displace' effect applied. I also made use of a track matte to fully show the colour / energy switch.

By adding a camera into this next composition and making the text a 3d element, I was able to change the extrusion depth of the text. I had this draw out to the bottom of the composition and used a track matte to give it interesting colour.

By comping the text 'honest', I was able to apply the CC Scale Wipe effect which allowed me to change the stretch of the word. This worked with the drawn out lyrics behind it. The word stretches with how it is delivered in the song.

'Percs' & 'Chronic' were again words referring to Juice WRLDs drugs so I wanted to make them interesting. I used the same effects I used on the word 'Drugs' and added a 3D rotation to both elements. I also made sure the track matte applied was 2 different colours to create a contrast between the similar size words.

I used another 3D rotation with the text "Smokin' 'til my eyes" with a quick shift in opacity to make the text appear as if it was spinning and morphing into new text. I then used another 3D element on "roll back". I had the text rotate back like it was rolling back. I also added a track matte to this to differentiate it.

I used a similar approach on the next lyrics but only applied a rotation on a 2D plane. The words would spin and the short opacity shift would make them seem as though they were morphing into one another.

Lastly, I added a High-Low Pass effect to the audio to get the muffled sound used in the intro and ending of the composition.

Final Rationale. My final motion piece was made for the Music Video option included in the brief. In using colour theory with the pink and purple hues, colourful visuals and text manipulation, I have represented the song and the vibe of the song. After many iterations and different effects, I selected the most fitting ones to the songs energy and applied them.

KIT Task 1 - Starring...

For this task I used a spider-man web effect that transitions into a title. The effects I used included: Masking, Tracking, Scale and Position manipulation. and a small bit of Rotation :)

KIT task 2 - Celebrity Quote

For this task I used the quote "Creativity is not a Competition". I used a few different effects such as: Masking, Scale and Position manipulation, Rotation Manipulation and a Null object to help with the zoom in to the water drop.
