Students in Art Foundations I learned about color theory and the use of value to create dimension within a work of art. Beginning the year with drawing, students were led through all of the fundamentals, ending the quarter with a skill culminating self portrait painting. Through transforming their image in Photoshop utilizing Posterization, each value within their portrait is simplified into an individual shape. After choosing their monochromatic color and applying their knowledge of color theory, students worked over the course of a few weeks to paint and complete their portrait. With freedom to design their background, each portrait holds both realistic and symbolic elements of each student.
