A Time FOR Everything
Tori Lambert | Children's Director
For most of us, transitioning seasons are marked by holidays, wardrobe changes, and new flavors of coffee. Fall might mean a chill in the air, brilliant leaf colors, and pumpkin spice in everything from cereal to pickles. Fall is of course a lot more than early nightfall and candy, though. In fact, it’s a great season to share some important Biblical principles with our children and others. We can honor the joy of changing life patterns, as well as the wonder of harvest time. With the blessings of modern conveniences, we have the ability to live and work and thrive regardless of weather or harvest conditions, at least for the most part. But looking back at the meaning of harvest is a beautiful way to recognize how God continuously provides for us, and how He has designated times and seasons for specific purposes.
Changes in season can provide us with a beautiful reminder of God’s consistency. Nothing in life stays the same forever, and yet we see patterns and cycles that do repeat on a regular basis. God is making all of these things happen. He makes the weather change, and the leaves fall to the ground. We can trust His goodness and faithfulness throughout all of it. He is a powerful, amazing, yet loving and creative God. We can find joy and celebrate how He provides for and blesses us by giving the seasons, harvest, and sunshine.
As the weather cools and we spend more time playing in the backyard, here are a few activities you and your children can do using some of the beautiful fall creations God provides us with.
- Leaf-blowing competition: using plastic straws, “race” leaves across a surface to see who can power their leaves through the quickest.
- Pumpkin “bowling”: Use real or fake pumpkins, rolled down an “alley” of some sort, and attempt to knock over plastic bottles or small cans.
- Catch falling “leaves”: stand on a chair or small ladder, and toss handfuls of fake leaves into the air. Provide kids with buckets or bags to collect as many leaves as possible within a given time frame.
PARENT'S DAY OUT
Melissa Wrona | PDO Director
Wow, can you believe it is already October? September really flew by! Now if only the weather would catch up to the calendar. Fall is such a cozy season; sweaters, pumpkins, chilly mornings, and darker evenings. Here at CCY Parent’s Day Out we are getting cozy and settling in for a great school year! We have nine friends enrolled and are looking to enroll more! Our teachers are Ms. Heather Johnson and Ms. Jaycie Wythe, who both attend CCY and are awesome teachers for our little crew. It is so amazing to see the families we are connecting with and the impact our church makes in their lives. Is there a greater responsibility than caring for a child? The kids started Chapel this week and we kicked off by learning about Noah and how God keeps His promises and takes care of us always. We learn about letters, numbers, shapes, colors, and most importantly God’s love for His people. The kids learn motor skills, sharing, listening, and just being in a group setting. We have extended the invitation for the Pumpkin Patch Day and Trunk or Treat to our PDO families so if you see some unfamiliar faces be sure to welcome them and let’s show them how wonderful our CCY family is!
Guatemala Mission Trip 2023
One of the most important things you will see here at Christ’s Church of Yukon is that we love missions.
We believe we were made for ministry and missions and we want to serve God by serving and loving others and pointing all people to Him. We have missions and missionaries we support across the globe as well as missions that are in our own community. In addition to supporting missions work and missionaries, we want to provide opportunities for our church family to experience missions work – both in our community and in other countries.
This summer we have 27 people from our church family that will have the opportunity to go to Guatemala to love people and serve in Jesus’ name! Our primary work will be with Morning Glory Christian Academy. (Please know that although it is a Christian school - we can’t assume all students and their families know Jesus). Our trip is scheduled for June 9-16, 2023. Please be praying for our team and as you can please financially support our team through our fundraising efforts.
Our primary objective on this trip, as with the past two to Guatemala, is to love and serve the kids and the school and also be a light in the neighborhoods and community. We are having a planning meeting right after church in the celebrity room on Oct. 9th. I want us to be even more intentional on this trip this upcoming summer. In the past, we have taught classes and assisted at the school in the mornings, and in the afternoons had work projects at the school. We also want to be involved with the parents of the kids and in the community in which we are staying. More information will of course be soon upcoming, but we want to give God our best as we love these kids and families while there.
Please be lifting up our team in prayer as our plan unfolds and we serve the Lord in Guatemala!
In Christ’s love –
Clay
HE IS WORKING IN YOU!
Chris Miller | Youth Pastor
In Sunday school class with our youth this month, we began a study in 1 st Corinthians. 1 st Corinthians is a letter written by Paul to the church in Corinth with the theme of “living a Christian lifestyle in a pagan world”. This particular topic has truly weighed heavy on my heart as our students in this generation are constantly being indoctrinated by lies from culture, media, peers, and sadly even the teachers and leaders in their schools.
We as a church have a calling on our lives to not only share the Gospel of Jesus Christ and share his love with others but are also called to be ambassadors for Christ in our own lives. Be in prayer for our students and young people as they live in a world that consistently spits in the face of God and chooses to live in sin and seeks only the pleasures of the flesh.
That being said, stand firm in your faith. Remember the God that you serve and the grace we have received. Despite the difficulties of this world, strive to love people and share Christ with them. 1 st Corinthians 1:4-7 says “I always thank my God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus. For in him you have been enriched in every way—with all kinds of speech and with all knowledge— God thus confirming our testimony about Christ among you. Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed.”
Your testimony matters. If God can offer grace to Paul and use his gifts to further the Kingdom, He can use you. God has a plan for your life and that same grace that is offered to me, is offered to you and is offered to everyone. The world’s lies cannot and will not stand the test of time like our God does. Blessings to you all!
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD
The Season of Sharing is just around the corner and we will have the opportunity to pack shoeboxes again this year, through Operation Christmas Child.
Would you like to bless a child with a present that may be the only present they receive their whole life? You can do that by filling an Operation Christmas Child shoebox. Beginning October 16th, you can stop by our Operation Christmas Child display table in the Gathering area at CCY and pick up one or more shoeboxes to fill. Then return to the church by November 13th.
CHRISTMAS EXTRAVAGANZA
Over the next couple of months, we will be working to prepare for the Christmas Extravaganza to be held on Saturday, December 3rd. There is much to do to prepare for our biggest event of the year, and we need your help! The greatest service need is on the day of the Extravaganza. There is a wide variety of options that will allow you to use the service gift that God has so graciously provided! If you like to interact with people, we've got that! If you like to pray with and for others, we've got that! If your gift is working with children, there is ample opportunity to serve in this area. Or, maybe you prefer to quietly serve "behind the scenes?" Yep, we've got that too. If you are simply not available on the day of the event, there are still ways you can serve! Maybe you have some new or gently used toys that could be donated, or the ability to provide a small gift or two that a child could wrap for their parent? Maybe you have an hour or two to spend at the church sorting and hanging clothing. Whatever your availability, please contact Kathy Rumbo or Shera Porter who will happily provide you with options.
