Faubion Orchestra Updates September 18, 2022

UT-Arlington Field Trip is this Tuesday. Students will be leaving class mid-2nd period and returning at 6 pm to Faubion MS. Students must wear this year's orchestra shirt for this trip. If a student has lost or misplaced their shirt or did not receive one, please bring money to school asap to get a new one. Students will need to bring money for lunch or bring a sack lunch with them. We recommend small backpacks/drawstring bags on this trip so students can bring 1st and 2nd period materials and then what they need for the trip. Bags cannot be left on the bus, so whatever a student brings to school that morning will need to be carried with them through our trip. If you are chaperoning, please make sure you've checked your e-mails as we have been sending out information and will continue to do so through Tuesday.

Congratulations to the Faubion Honors Orchestra for being National Winners in the Mark of Excellence/National Orchestra Honors Project. The Mark of Excellence is sponsored by the Foundation for Music Education and consists of the National Wind Band Honors, National Choral Honors, National Orchestra Honors, National Jazz Honors, and National Percussion Ensemble Honors. It is a competition, entered by recordings, in which the top quarter are selected as National Winners. This year 376 of the finest musical ensembles in the nation entered the competition. The project has now received entries from 39 states. This is the third time Faubion Orchestra has been a National Winner. Congratulations on this wonderful achievement! We are so proud of our students for continuing our legacy of excellence.

Our Orchestra Fundraiser began last week. We are selling candles, room sprays and other fragranced products from Scents of Soy. Our goal is to raise at least $10,000 through this fundraiser. The monies raised will go towards helping fund all of our trips and contests our students attend each year. Most years we spend over $10,000 in transportation costs alone. Contest fees total over $8,000 and this is before we pay for any music, instruments, student incentives, or classroom equipment and supplies. Our goal is for each child to sell 10 items. If you would rather make a donation instead of participating in this fundraiser, that is always gladly welcomed and appreciated. Instruction on how to donate online are here. The turn in date for order forms and money is Tuesday, September 27. Please make all checks payable to Faubion Orchestra.

The Faubion Beginning Orchestra will be having their Demonstration Concert on Monday, September 26 at 7 pm in the Faubion Cafeteria. Students need to arrive by 6:30 pm wearing this year's orchestra shirts, pants, and non-sandal shoes. Please have at least one parent/guardian in attendance for your child. The concert will be finished by 7:30 pm. This is a summative grade for all Beginning Orchestra students.

Our Faubion Orchestra Boosters is sponsoring some fun, optional spiritwear for students and fans of the Faubion Orchestra. You can shop online for different styles (t-shirts, hoodies, long sleeve t-shirts, dry fit shirts, tank tops, baseball tees, etc) of each design. A portion of each sale benefits the Faubion Orchestra Boosters.

We encourage all parents to join the Faubion Orchestra Boosters. This parent organization provides support to our orchestra program by helping fund student socials (bounce houses, video game trucks and etc), extra workshops/clinics, prizes and incentives for students, and private lesson scholarships.
