- Last week, we welcomed The Hector and Gloria López Foundation to campus for their announcement of a generous $1M grant to provide full tuition assistance for 15 first-generation Latino students here.
- Beginning in the Fall of 2023 and for the next five years, these López Scholars will receive support for tuition and fees, as well as other resources including mentorship, tutoring, housing, study abroad programs, paid internships, leadership development, and more. Find out all about it.
- Degree Choices, a team of education researchers that provides advice to prospective students, has indicated TAMIU is ranked number two among the Best Colleges in Texas, outranking the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, UT-Austin, Texas Women’s University, Texas A&M University, University of Houston, Texas Tech, and UT-San Antonio. Degree Choices also ranked TAMIU 5th among 550 ranked Southern College institutions. Finally, among national Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs), TAMIU was ranked 10th nationally, and the highest-ranked Texas university. Read all about it.
This Week:
- On Tuesday, April 11 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the Student Center Auditorium, room 235, join in the Texas A&M International University Forum: Nuevo León 2023 coming. Hosted by the student group, LULAC at TAMIU, it features speakers from various sectors including commerce, the private sector, education and entertainment.
- Also Tuesday, the eternal works of the Spanish author Miguel de Cervantes will be explored at 6 p.m. in the Killam Library Great Room on the third floor. “Cervantes & Don Quijote: The Enduring Legacy for the Ages,” is free of charge and open to all. Dr. Ray M. Keck, President Emeritus and scholar of Spanish and Cervantes, will provide a special lecture. The evening will also include a first-ever chance to see books from the Cliffe Killam Collection including rare first and illustrated Spanish editions.
- On Wednesday, Neil Irwin, author and chief economic correspondent for Axios, will share insight on the nation's financial forecast at the IBC Bank and Commerce Bank Keynote Speaker Series in the Student Center Ballroom. - You can still enjoy the “Ways of Seeing: One Exhibit, Two Spaces” exhibit, featuring artists and friends Eric Avery, M.D., and Sue Coe, which continues at the CFPA Gallery and the Laredo Center for the Arts. Find out more.

- The great sounds of the internationally renowned performance group Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán is coming here Saturday, April 22, at 7:30 p.m. at the CFPA Recital Hall. The concert, “Fiesta y Tradición,” is the capstone event of the 7th Annual International Mariachi Festival April 20 - 21. High school mariachi groups from across Texas will take part in workshops with Tecalitlán members. April 11 TAMIU Free Lecture on Cervantes Features Rare Books, Insight from Dr. Ray M. Keck
An opportunity to learn about the eternal works of the Spanish author Miguel de Cervantes is happening Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 6 p.m. Dr. Ray M. Keck, President Emeritus and scholar of Spanish and Cervantes, will provide a special lecture. Economy's Outlook Featured at IBC Bank & Commerce Bank Keynote Speaker Series at TAMIU Wednesday, April 12

Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán Returns to TAMIU April 22
The musical stylings of the internationally renowned performance group Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán will be heard once again at TAMIU Saturday, April 22, at 7:30 p.m. at the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall. The performance, “Fiesta y Tradición,” serves as the capstone event of the two-day 7th Annual International Mariachi Festival at TAMIU, April 20 - 21 at the University.
