Note from our Head
Dear Oakfield families,
We enjoyed a brilliant assembly from 3YH today in which they reflected on the powers we have within us to create change in the world. The children shared their thoughts on the power of kindness and courage and the power of words.
As the world remembered Holocaust Memorial Day yesterday, we reflect as educators on our precious duty to equip our children with the ability to find and use their voices to challenge intolerance and cruelty and to show courage and kindness in order to make a difference to the lives of others.

YEAR 6
SCIENCE
In Year 6 this week, Miss Francis' group have been practising converting between fractions, decimals and percentages. We began the week playing a matching pairs game and then moved onto ordering mixed fractions, decimals and percentages in our books later on.
In Year 6 Science this week, we have been learning all about light. We learnt that dark is the absence of light and about Newton's theory of the spectrum of light. We made our own spectroscopes to see the rainbow of colours that make up 'white' light.
We also conducted an investigation using a light meter to see how much light passed through different materials.
YEAR 5
Pen Pals
Year 5 finally received their pen pal letter from Spain. Our partner school is called "Arquitecto Leoz" and is located in a town called Puerto Real in the south of Spain. The children were so excited to read what their pals had written!
This week in Science we measured light using a light metre. We compared different plastics and how they impacted the travel of light. We were really interested in the difference and considered how this might affect our eyes and sunglasses for our next holiday!
YEAR 2
Ancient Egypt
Year 2 have enjoyed an Ancient Egypt dress-up day and workshop.
The children explored Ancient Egypt and encountered mummies, pharaohs and gods along their journey!
We learnt something new in English this week; Venn diagrams. The children looked at the differences and similarities between, Cinderella, Cinderella of the Nile. They worked in groups to read statements and place them correctly on the Venn diagram.
Who is sitting in the ‘hot seat’! The children took on characters from our story and stayed in role while the ‘audience’ asked questions!
Look at our circuit headbands! We know what is needed to make a circuit complete!
YEAR 1
ENGLISH
This week in Topic lessons, the children were excited to be scientists and design and create a new tower for Rapunzel. The tower needed to be waterproof, windproof and strong, so they investigated which building material was best by making predictions and then observing closely when they carried out their tests.
UPPER FOUNDATION
Transport
The children had a fabulous time in the car park learning how to take tally charts. They understood how to mark a line for each vehicle that passed and are beginning to understand how to make a 'gate 'when they have counted 5. We looked at their results and were able to talk about why there are more of some vehicles than of others. They compared their results with each other and talked about what mode of transport was the most common and popular on Thurlow Park Road.
The children absolutely loved their trip on the bus to Crystal Palace. They noticed signs, practised road safety and learned lots of different things about buses. They talked about why we make sure to hold onto a handrail or sit down sensibly, what the different signs on the bus mean and why there are mirrors and cameras.
We walked around the bus station and noticed all the different ways passengers are kept safe, as well as why the buses are specially built. We talked about disabled access to the buses as well. We all had a fantastic time and we are so grateful to the parents that came along to support our trip.
