As we journey into 2023, the Head for the Cure Foundation embarks on our third decade in support of brain tumor patients, and their caregivers and loved ones. On behalf of the Head for the Cure Board of Directors, staff, and thousands of supporters, we send our best wishes to you and those you love, for a healthy, joyful, and hope-filled year ahead.
Several years ago, Head for the Cure proclaimed its core purpose to Defeat Brain Cancer Step by Step. And while the journey is long, we have remained steadfast in this mission over 20 years, as more than 250,000 participants, donors and other supporters have left their footprints with every step that serve to guide the path for others who follow.
The HFTC 2023 5K Run/Walk season is already underway, and we are poised for another outstanding year. But before we flip the calendar from winter to spring, the pages that follow offer a glimpse into all we achieved in 2022, while celebrating the lives and legacies of those we support, and the generosity from each of you who made it possible.
Throughout 2022, we relied on our supporters, medical and scientific partners, team captains, participants, donors, sponsors, and volunteers to help us build awareness, raise funds, and inspire hope and joy to brain tumor patients and their loved ones. Every HFTC hosted 5K event, Facebook fundraiser, bike ride, golf tourney, card tournament, and other various community fundraising events have created new footprints along the journey. Each conversation with doctors, nurses, researchers, patients, and caregivers has energized our community and enabled our way forward. And through it all, we raised nearly $2.6 million, making 2022 the 2nd highest revenue total in Head for the Cure’s history.
These funds enabled Head for the Cure to issue 36 grants to our partner hospitals and brain tumor centers across the country. We continued to support the Brain Tumor Trials Collaborative (BTTC) for the 17th consecutive year. We grew our support groups — Patient Perspectives and Caregiver Conversations — by sharing, listening, and offering guidance to hundreds within our community across the country. We continued to strengthen our Brains for the Cure patient and caregiver navigator and are poised to expand the program with the launch of the Join your Path to Hope (JPH) personalized online platform later this year.
Indeed, 2022 was an extraordinary year for the Head for the Cure Foundation. We are excited to share these select stories of reflection from among the hundreds we experienced last year. Each story offers encouragement from you — our donors — and illustrates how our community continues to leave footprints of hope and joy in our quest to Defeat Brain Cancer Step by Step.
Thank you for your continued support, encouragement, and generosity.
All the best in 2023,
Matt Anthony, Head for the Cure Foundation Founder & President
