ISB Centre for Inclusive Learning Our mission is to nurture students who learn in different ways, in a holistic and positive environment.

Meet the Team

Welcome to the ISB Centre for Inclusive Learning

Our team of dedicated and highly experienced staff ensure that the needs of all our students are met in a positive and supportive learning environment where we nurture excellence and ignite minds.

Our Philosophy

Our philosophy is that Everyone Excels when provided with the appropriate challenge and opportunities in a caring, safe and inclusive environment. The foundations of the curriculum at the Centre for Inclusive Learning are holistic. We support each child's personal educational, communication, physical, social and emotional needs through 4 core areas of development.

Collaboration with families is at the heart of the Centre for Inclusive Learning as we work to build on each child’s strengths. From the moment of admission, we work with you to design a bespoke programme that is carefully planned to ensure success in your child’s learning journey.

The Centre for Inclusive Learning will incorporate authentic inclusion opportunities with students at ISB Seria; sharing specialist lessons, activities and facilities, both at our campus and Seria.

A Tailored Curriculum

Tailored to your child's individuals needs

Your child’s personalised curriculum will be underpinned by the 4 core areas of need and support as defined by the UK 0-25 SEND Code of Practice (2015).

The 0-25 SEND Code (2015) emphasises: ‘The purpose of identification is to work out what action the school needs to take, not to fit a student into a category. In practice, individual children or young people often have needs that cut across all these areas and their needs may change over time... A detailed assessment of need should ensure that the full range of an individual’s needs is identified, not simply the primary need.’ (section 6.27)

We support each child's personnal educational, communication, physical, social and emotional needs through the 4 core areas of development.

A Typical Day

We all thrive on routines and predictability, and for children with learning differences this daily structure is even more important, as uncertainty leads to anxiety. Children with learning differences require a very concrete, literal and predictable world to feel secure.

At the Centre for Inclusive Learning your child will have their own personal visual timetable, so they can see what is coming up next and what they will be doing.

Cognition and Learning

Our aim at the Centre for Inclusive Learning is not only to develop academic learning skills but also to build all-important interest and engagement in the environment and functional life skills.

At the Centre, we support readiness for learning and early academic skills. We also provide a holistic curriculum that includes developing functional life skills and self-care. Activities in this area include Intensive Interaction and imitation skills for building joint attention, Structured Teaching, functional play skills, sensory cookery and gardening, music, ICT, arts and crafts, literacy, maths and science.

The Centre promotes cognitive development and learning through a broad range of fun practical activities.

Communication and Interaction

Ensuring that your child finds their voice and is able to communicate their needs, thoughts and feelings with others is our priority at the Centre for Inclusive Learning.

With a philosophy of Communication for All; opportunities for language development and interaction are encouraged throughout the school day.

Daily sessions of targeted speech, language and communication development form part of the curriculum and these sessions are guided by an external speech therapist.

Current speech, language and communication strategies include: Cued Articulation, Core Language Board, Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), Joint Attention building through Imitation, Rapport-based Communication, Melodic-based Communication, Colourful Semantics, Concept Vocabulary and Blanks Verbal Reasoning to name a few.

Children work on personalised speech and language targets both in 1:1 sessions and throughout the school day.

Social, Emotional and Mental Health

The importance of a sense of belonging for all children cannot be underestimated so inclusive practice and wellbeing are at the heart of everything we do at the Centre for Inclusive Learning.
Building a sense of belonging and positive play experiences are at the heart of our provision.

Sensory and Physical Development

Physical movement promotes sensory regulation, which in turn, improves attention and curiosity for learning.

When your world is perceived as being chaotic and confusing, it is easy to get overwhelmed. At the Centre for Inclusive Learning we have created sensory rooms and spaces where children can engage in calming or alerting activities to support sensory processing. Our daily curriculum includes sensory circuits, sensory play, sensory stories and multi-sensory learning tasks.

Our students engage in a wide range of physical and sensory activities every day.

Internationalism

Celebrating diversity is the foundation of our practice at the Centre. We support this through our child-centred curriculum and themed activities where we explore the different foods, arts, dress and traditions of our students and staff.
ISB International Day October 2022, Chinese New Year January 2023 and Hari Raya 2023

Inclusion

Inclusion opportunities in the local community facilitate transfer and generalisation of skills developed at the Centre. They provide small steps of structured independence which build confidence. The visits also support transition into mainstream provision for children who are ready.

Learning in Action

Parent Forum

ISB is a community, of which parents are a vital part. You will be involved in the planning of their child’s personal curriculum and targets at ISB Centre for Inclusive Learning and offering support to each other. The parent forums will be in-person and virtual opportunities for us to discuss, share and grow together.

Events

  • Open door policy for ongoing partnership and review of each child's progress
  • Parent workshops will provide opportunities to discuss, understand and share in our goals, mission, vision and values. The content of these workshops will be designed in full collaboration with families to ensure they are relevant to parent needs and priorities
  • Open mornings where parents join us to celebrate special events with us
