UDIS NEWSLETTER ISSUE #13

K2: Kipper and Tiger -  K2 have enjoyed reading the story series ‘Kipper’ by Mick Inkpen. From this, they created their own Kipper and Tiger Adventure story using their thinking skills to imagine and plan and their phonics skills to write keywords for their story. Well done K2 for being creative writers and storytellers.
Y2/3: Enjoying international week -  We enjoyed our ‘International Week’ investigation and research activities. We sampled many foods from around the globe and we chose a country to research. There were awards given by the student council and Okin and IQ were the recipients of our class awards. Okin received her award for being the most improved student in the class and IQ received his award for being the most hard working in class. Well done to both of them.
Y5/6 class: Breakfast around the world -  During International week, we cooked a range of breakfast foods from around the world. We observed the chemical changes happening in the process of cooking. We thought about whether the breakfasts were balanced and if they were healthy. We rated the tastes of the foods in addition to keeping our own personal breakfast diaries. We also carried out research to find out about breakfasts using both book and online sources of information..
Y8/9: Exploring wonderland -  In Performing Arts, students have been exploring Alice in Wonderland, a story written in 1865 by Lewis Caroll. This English children's novel is still captivating today and allows our students to develop their creativity as well as their performing skills. Y8/9 are currently working hard on memorising their script, designing their costumes and the stage. The performance should take place in June. More information to come.

Thai: Traditional refreshments

Our MYP learners had the chance to make the traditional juice “Butterfly Pea Flower”. Learners had a great experience in learning how to make this traditional recipe using Thai herbs. When they were finished they shared their juice with the whole school. Learners had the chance to practice their vocabulary and communication skills with this task.

Student success: Patrick in Year 1 - Hitting it out of the park this month is Mr. Pattrick who received an award for most improved from student council and was the first in our Y1 class to get a super improver award for improvement. Keep working hard Mr. Pattrick.
