Introduced it to England in the 1750s and has since spread worldwide.

Life cycle & History

Broccoli development typically goes through the following phases:

Germinating Seeds
Transplanting
Stem & Head Formation
Broccoli Flowering & Seeding

Historically, Broccoli is best grown in the early spring or late summer and should receive about 8 hours of sunlight each day.

Taste & Nutrition

The broccoli head tastes like a bushy grass, and the stem has a more watery taste.

The primary nutritional benefit broccoli offers is its high Calcium content.

Pollinators (+) & Threats (-)

Pollinators include a wide variety of insects, one of the most well-known being a bumble bee!

Threats include:

Aphids - suck the leaf sap!
Cabbage Worms - put holes in leaves!
Downy Mildew - turns them yellow!
White Rust - white spots on leaves!

American Uses

Added to several recipes
Eaten to reduce inflamation
Commonly dipped in sauces to enhance its flavor
