Latinx with Plants Amanda Arellano

Amanda Arellano is a young person dedicated to advocating for different rights, such as rights for Arts Justice, reproductive and abortion rights, LGBTQIA+ rights, and for the rights of people with disabilities. Even though they are in a Gap year, this 18 year old person aims to study computer science.

"I chose to focus on Latinx With Plants because I not only wanted to learn about the history of this business, but because I also wanted to highlight the importance of having a Latinx-run plant business. Some important lessons that this project taught me were on how to improve on my photography skills, as well as how to see East LA’s history in a new way, which resulted in me using photography as a medium both for representation, as well as a medium for creating a new perspective on certain topics. My favorite part about participating in Las Fotos Project was learning how to use our DSLR cameras, as well as how to use photography techniques to talk about a business’s story through pictures. For this reason, my favorite part about working with other students was learning from their experiences, as well as getting inspiration from their work."- Amanda Arellano, a Las Fotos Project Digital Promotoras A student in the Fall 2022 semester
