Antigua: Latina America Travel Guide Ari Lopez GD406 Senior thesis

Abstract

When people choose to vacation in Latin America, the usual picks are resorts in Cancun and Punta Cana. While beaches and rich nightlifes are fun, Latin America is also home to sophisticated and mysterious ruins such as Chichen Itza, Teotihuacan, Serpent Mound, Tikal, and Machu Picchu. These sites belonged to some of the great indigenous civilizations—those of the Maya, the Aztec, and the Inca. The Antigua: Latin America Travel Guide is a project that dives into the exploration of Latin America’s ruins and archeological sites. The purpose of this project is to encourage travelers to visit these beautiful historical sites and tap into a more cultural experience. This book will not only dive into facts about the past, but also educate visitors on how to respect these ruins and help preserve them.

Research

I began researching different civilizations that resided in Latin America. I realized that making each book separated by civilization would make them vary in length. I decided to focus each book on the main 4 countries with archeological sites: Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, and Peru.

Artwork

I gathered images of hieroglyphics, ancient writings, and textiles to help me create an image style based on these countries and Mesoamerican civilizations.
