Why: In producing, performing and sharing their creative experiences, learners will intrinsically develop their confidence, resilience, empathy and ambition via accessible yet challenging experiences in order that they can become ethical and informed citizens of the world. Learners will gain an understanding and appreciation of cultures and societies in Wales and the world. Engagement in Expressive Arts will equip learners with the skills to explore social and cultural differences through time and place.
What: The Expressive Arts AoLE aims to develop inquisitive, imaginative students that are able to explore the world around them.
How: Expressive Arts will be delivered through a variety of creative means, engaging, motivating and encouraging learners within the subject areas of Art, Dance, Drama, Media and Music that include opportunities for developing their own creative talents, artistic skills and performing skills.
The Experience: Over the year you will have access to several subjects that fall under the category of ‘Expressive Arts’.
In Music you will learn about music from other parts of the world, learn about music from Wales and compose music about a Welsh Monster. You will sing, play keyboards and percussion instruments, and listen to lots of distinctive styles of music.
In Drama and Dance, you will learn about drama and dance from a variety of cultures. You will create your own choreography and look at both devised and scripted dramas. You will also have an opportunity to learn about the technical aspects of the theatre industry; specifically, lighting, costume, and design.
In Media, you will study visual media, analysing how you interact with a range of media and eventually creating your own advertising campaign. You will explore printed, visual and film media throughout the year both looking at the theoretical aspect as well as the practical aspects.
