Origin

The wild sunflower is widely regarded to be native to North America. It was the American Indian who domesticated them into single- headed plants.

The taste by themselves can be described as bittersweet or even a little bit nutty

These include self pollination and cross pollination

Typically feed on leaf foliage on younger plants

Cutworms

Eat holes in leaves that can result in wilting

Sunflower moths

Lay their eggs on the stem then once hatched, larva makes their way to the head and destroys it

Native American's used sunflowers to make a type of bread or cake and contributed very important fats to their diet

The world's tallest sunflower measured 30 feet and one inch according to the Guinness Book of World Records
