The child's imagination is tomorrow's reality St Gwladys Bargoed Primary School Curriculum Summary

Our Curriculum Design

Our school curriculum is everything a learner experiences and is designed to enable our children to fulfil the Four Purposes. It is not just about what we teach but also how we teach it and why.

We have developed a curriculum that is flexible and relevant to the context and lives of all our learners, firmly based within our community and our sense of who we are.

From these beginnings, our learners can move to a sense of their position in the wider world.

Our assessment is carefully interwoven into our curriculum design, it doesn’t stand alone.

It is part of our everyday practice and is based on assessment for learning. This enables every learner to have their individual needs met and make progress. Formative assessment and on-the-spot marking provides the information required to identify the appropriate intervention. This supports both learner well-being and progression.

Effective assessment of learners contributes to a holistic picture of the individual. It ensures that learners are supported and challenged appropriately and that barriers to learning are considered. Assessment for learning is a continuous process, using the principles of progression to inform learning, teaching and assessment.
