K2: Playing and learning
In K2, it has been amazing to have the learners back with us in school. We have certainly missed them being in the classroom. Our learners have enjoyed getting back into their routine and spending time to play and learn. We really look forward to continuing our learning in Term 2.
Y2/3: Let there be light!
Year 2/3 have been investigating the properties of light over the last two weeks. Not only were they able to remember their learning from our previous science topic (about the relationship with plants and light) but the learners have extended their knowledge to be able to understand that light can be split into various colours as in a rainbow.
Y5/6 class update - Area and perimeter Y5/6 have been learning about area and perimeter making shapes, drawing them accurately and measuring their dimensions. Initially, we used actual size shapes, but we are now beginning to use diagrams which are not to scale. Everyone has measured squares, rectangles and some irregular shapes. Now we will calculate area and perimeter from diagrams and learn how to calculate the area of a triangle.
Staff intro: Ms Marie - Arts and Library Marie joined UDIS this year with her husband, Mr Jay, and their daughter, Simone, in K2. As the performing arts teacher and librarian, she feels very privileged to be part of such a caring community at UDIS. Marie is extremely grateful for the welcoming and generous colleagues, parents, and students at UDIS. Outside of school, Marie enjoys studying and researching about education. She also loves to read, bike, swim, do yoga, and eat more and more spicy food.
PTA meeting - On Monday we held our most recent PTA meeting with parent representatives. The main topics were reviewing our Covid procedures with parents and also discussing what mandatory vaccinations may look like if these are imposed by the authorities. A lot of good ideas were shared which will help the school with its planning. We are always ready to listen and work with our parents when making decisions.
