Term 1, week 6

Science: Rocks
For science this week, we were learning all about different types of soil and what they are made of. We completed an investigation to determine exactly what the different soils were.
The following day, we looked at the results in greater detail and decided what type of soil each group had.
English: Creative writing
An important task for this week was our No More Marking task. The pupils got to write their own story about the picture above. We spent some time learning vocabulary and discussing our ideas before writing the story.
On Thursday the class participated in a live writing session by The British Library. The theme was ‘Step Inside Your Story.’ The class heard from some wonderful children’s authors and an illustrator. We completed different tasks following along and then the next day, the children wrote their story in their new creative writing journals.
History: The Stone Age
The class had a fantastic history lesson this week. We stepped back inside our story, where we had arrived at a new settlement; Skara Brae. Firstly, we had to justify to the chief why he should let us stay there. Then, we studied the different buildings at the settlement and drew our own versions. The children were really engaged in this activity and enjoyed taking part.
