I chose these images because they were the first self portraits of myself I loved. I've never been comfortable in front of the camera as much as I was behind it. This class has definitely challenged my insecurities and has pushed me out of my comfort zone. Sure, appearance matters sometimes, but a body simply holds the gift of who we truly are on the inside. Appearance fades, but human decency and a loving heart doesn't.
Growing up, my family encouraged me to be involved with my culture and represent it, so that I could carry it down through a new generation. My images this year were related to big parts of my identity being a little Mexican girl from LA.
