Graduation Guidelines
- Class of 2023 commencement will take place on June 2, 2023 at 7:00 PM in the Theatre.
- See below link for more details
Senior Privilege Review
- Students MUST arrive to school five minutes before their first scheduled class and leave prior to the last scheduled class period in a given school day.
- Students abusing this opportunity will see their privilege revoked. Revocation is at the complete discretion of the administration.
- This includes attending school during senior privilege scheduled time but not accounted for while in the building. All seniors who have this privilege can’t pick and choose to leave the building at will.
Cab Calloway School Fund Scholarship
- These competitive scholarships range up to $1,000 per student and can be used for any arts subject taught at Cab Calloway School of the Arts (CCSA).
- Students currently in 6th - 11th grade are eligible to apply.
2023-24 Course Catalog and Planning Checklist
- The School Counselors and staff worked extremely hard with creating a course catalog filled with rigorous course offerings that will challenge our students academically and artistically.
- Here is a parent checklist created by Kim Rigby, that can be used in support of helping your students select courses.
Choice Requirements and Major Changes
- Students who do not meet the standard for attendance, academics, and behavior will receive a Choice Termination Warning Letter.
- Students who desire to change majors must complete the attached form.
- There must be administration approval based upon availability in the requested major.
Leslie Knight: Spanish Teacher
- We welcome Leslie Knight to the Cab Calloway Community as our new Spanish Teacher.
- She has already met our students and faculty.
- Ms. Knight is a great addition to our school community.
Sherry Pitman: 10-Month Clerk
- We welcome Sherry Pitman to the Cab Calloway School Community.
- Ms. Pitman will be taking on Emily Ciuffetelli’s role as the attendance secretary.
- Ms. Ciuffetelli is now the 12-Month Secretary who supports the School Counselors.
Karina Loose: Behavior Interventionist
- Ms. Loose graduated in 2020 with my BS in Psychology and Certifications in Child Advocacy and Trauma Informed Approaches.
- She looks forward to using her background to assist the students at CCSA reach and understand their full potential.
“The pandemic forced all of us to go through a great deal together as a community and I believe that we could all use as much support as possible. I hope to help our students adjust to the way out world looks now with as much open-mindedness and understanding as possible.”

CAB CALLOWAY SCHOOL OF THE ARTS HIGHLIGHTS:
BPA State and National Recognition
- The Cab Calloway Business Professionals of America Chapter competed in the 2023 Delaware BPA State Leadership Conference in February.
- There was an awards ceremony on March 3, 2023 and 30 Cab Calloway BPA members won awards.
Calista Deguzman: National Taekwondo Recognition
- It’s great to see our Cab Calloway student’s success at an National and International level in all endeavor.
- As a student-athlete, Calista got bronze medal beating out 63 competitors in the individual female division.
- And her junior team won silver. Below is a short Instagram video link to her prior competition in Costa Rica.
Arden Rissmiller: United States of America Snowboard Association (USASA) National Championships
- We celebrate, Arden Rissmiller who is currently ranked 11th in Alpine snowboard slalom, and 14th in giant slalom in their division. The top 40 nationally-ranked athletes are invited to the United States of America Snowboard Association (USASA) National Championships, to be held at Copper Mountain in Colorado from March 31-April 7, 2023.
- Arden has also competed in the USASA Appalachian Regional events in Massanutten, VA, and USASA Western New York Regional events at Holiday Valley, New York.

Black Student Union Soul Showcase
- Congratulations to BSU for three successful Soul Showcase highlighting our students talent expressed through dance, spoken word, song, and instrument.
- In addition, they performed at AI DuPont Middle School Black History Month as a community outreach.
Secretary of Education Scholar Recognition: Isabelle Bruening and Genevieve Breen
- The state has named Secretary of Education Scholars every year since 1984. Principals nominate honorees based on both academic record and community service.
- We congratulate Isabelle Bruening and Genevieve Breen for being recognized to receive the nominations to represent Cab Calloway School of the Arts.
Lincoln Club Essay Winner: Isabela March
- We are thrilled to share that Isabela March has been named the winner of the Lincoln Club Essay Contest, sponsored by the Lincoln Club of Delaware and WSFS Bank.
- She was honored at a black tie dinner at the Wilmington Country Club where she was presented with a $1000 college scholarship.
Cab Calloway High School Mock Trial Team
- This program is designed to provide high school students with valuable learning experiences in law, public speaking, and critical thinking.
- All Delaware public, private, and charter high schools are invited to participate in the competition each year.
- Delaware mock trial graduates have gone on to become lawyers, politicians, government officials, and civic-minded citizens.
- We recognize and thank Mr. Winnington for his leadership in ensuring our students were provided the space to immerse themselves in this real life experience.
Hair Spray Musical Opening Weekend
- If you did not get a chance to go to any of the Hair Spray Musical performances you are missing one of the best high school musical production witnessed in several years.
Cab Calloway Shakespeare Team
- Congratulations to the following students from our Shakespeare team that won 2nd place team at the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival as well as the following students who placed!!

All-State Chorus 2023
National History Day State Competition
- We are thrilled to share the results of the National History Day state competition from Saturday.
- 1st and 2nd place students will advance to Nationals in Washington D.C. in June! This was a culmination of months of sustained historical inquiry on student selected topics connected to the theme of Frontiers in History.
- We thank Mr. Bedell and Mrs. Sullivan for their contribution in preparing and inspiring our students.

Academic Updates

- We are offering Academic After-School Support Program on Monday and Thursday from 2:30-4:30 PM for students who are in danger of failing and with chronic attendance.

Student Extracurricular Activities
- Students have until 3:30 PM to wait in the lobby for their ride.
- The lobby is not for students to loiter for social time.
- All 10-12th grade students leaving campus must sign in the front office upon return.
- Attendance will be kept by club advisor or supervising staff.
Culture Humility Training
- A member of our Cab Administration team is exciting about joining CSW Administration with in-person sessions focused on Cultural Humility facilitated by Dr. Harrison.
- Cultural humility is a practice of self-reflection on how one’s own background and the background of others, impact teaching, learning, research, creative activity, engagement, leadership, etc
- We thank CSW for inviting our team as we build our leadership capacity in the area of building community with respect to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging among staff and student.
