Artist Statement

This portrait is was commissioned by a patron In Detroit, Michigan. He is a huge Batman fan, and a huge fan of the quote by Batman; “No Guns”.

Though not a gun owner, I am not making a statement about the right or wrong of firearms or the Second Amendment, rather, this is an expression of my right to free speech. If guns are violence, and the laws are changed to address that, What happens when my words (or images) are called violence? Will I lose that freedom?

I use the brass for creating beauty as opposed to isolated destruction. I hope the ambiguity of my images create the very sort of dialog that we need to resolve those troubling issues.
