Tree of Life Week 4

This week in Year 1, we became artists! To begin with, we spoke about how art is so unique and doesn’t have to be only paintings or drawings. Instead, our learning this week was all about sculptures and 3-D paper play!

On Monday the children looked at a very unusual real-life sculpture called ‘other’ by Samantha Stephenson and focused on what the difference is between 2-D and 3-D. We then put our 3-D model making skills to the test and designed some tube towers!

We took a deeper look into 3-D sculptures on Tuesday and had a go at practising our very own…

The children’s practice with 3-D modelling really came in handy for our final project, where they designed their own Tree of Life. We talked about how the Tree of Life is so special and full of nature and beauty, which inspired their 3-D models to truly come to life! 🌳

In English, the children have been working on how they can construct the perfect sentence about Cave Baby. We spoke about the golden rules of constructing a sentence before trying to fix our own sentences after they had been muddled up!

After, the children had a go at writing their own perfect sentences to describe the characters in Cave Baby. They were amazing!

In Maths, the children have been working with numbers up to 10 using numicon. We also enjoyed playing a rocket space ship video, counting down the seconds until blast off!🚀

Well done Year 1 for another fantastic week!
