Brandon Hyatt Photography Traveling from A to Z

Well hello there! It's that time of year again - Spring Break! Our family decided to hit the open road and take the back roads from Salt Lake City, Utah to Mesa, Arizona. We took I-15 down to Nephi, Ut., left the interstate behind and took highway 89 through some beautiful country and many of Utah's small towns.

Our first stop was Ephraim, UT. This is the workshop of one of my family's favorite Youtube channels, that we watch every week. They are funny and they are right here in UTAH, so we have to show support!

You can find them at: @RobbyLayton, www.robbylayton.com

We were greeted by the sweetest lady in the front office. She showed the merchandise since my son wanted stickers. She gave us a sneak peek at the new stickers, which we will be ordering some of those soon. She gave us a quick tour of the shop, and led us back to meet some of the guys on the show.

Pictured above is "Hillbilly". He works with Robby in the shop and on the YouTube channel. He was so nice to meet and visit with. There is also the snow recovery vehicle, named "whiskers". It needs a lot of love. We then had the privilege of seeing their super top secret project! They showed it off last weekend for the Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, UT.

At our next stop, my son received a history lesson. Who is one of Utah's most famous outlaws? Robert LeRoy Parker, also known as "Butch Cassidy".

Butch Cassidy is the best known of Utah's outlaws, rivaling the fame of even Jesse James and Billy the Kid. Cassidy and his gang, the Wild Bunch, were among the most successful of all western outlaws. We visited his boyhood home. It can be found just south of Circleville, Ut.

Now it's time to meet...

This is Paul, he fabricated the tow truck you see and the "Toyoda" in the picture above. He is another one of my favorite Youtuber's. Paul, along with his brother Ben, build and repair all types of things on their channel, and with the help of his lovely wife, Michelle (who does all the real work behind the videos). They have some cool videos that highlight what they do best, but show off a lot of the southern half of Utah. We were lucky to meet Hunter, their trusty camera man, and their Grandma Molly. She runs the "Rat Shack" which is where you can buy merch - as my son calls it. She is the reason you should stop by and visit, even if you don't like building cars. They are all around good people. If you have time check their video below. You can find them on Youtube, Instagram & Facebook.

After starting our adventure at 6:30 a.m., we had been on the road for just over 6 hours and drove over 300 miles. It was definitely time to grab some lunch. Just down the road, there is a little food trailer that is owned and ran by ("Fabrats") Paul's Aunt, in Orderville, Ut. called Archies - Food To Die For. They have a burger called the Fabrat. It was created by Paul during a lunch break and it has been on the menu ever since. This burger was so delicious! If you're coming up from Southern Utah through Kanab or out of Zions National Park, it's worth the stop!

We are not done for the day just yet. We still have time to run through another national park, as we still have a little light left in the day. We got gouged $35 dollars to drive a state highway, so we might as well get some pictures while we drive through Zion's National Park.

We finally reached our destination of St. George, Ut. by the end of the day. We were glad to be out of the car stretching our legs and we got some sleep at the home of my in-laws, Steve and Linda Stay.

In the morning it was time to get going again. This time a little slower so we drove to Hurricane, Ut., to visit Matt's Offroad Recovery. Matt is another YouTube star that we follow. He is known for taking his crew out in their unique vehicles, that are built to handle climbing the famous red rocks at Sand Hollow as well as surrounding areas. His shop houses the vehicles on the channel which are the Banana, Morrvair, Samorri, and the Worlds Biggest Off-Road Wrecker. You can find them on YouTube and at https://mattsoffroadrecovery.com

Whenever we are in St. George, Ut., we have to stop and say hello to my wife's Grandpa Bill and his wife Winn. I do believe the last time they saw our son Bryson, he was still looking up to see them and now it's the other way around.

While we were in town, Steve took us over to show off what his wife Linda has been working on for the community. We were lucky enough to get a tour of the new Switchpoint Community Center & the new Rise Garden's. This place is a great resource for anyone that is in need of assistance in getting back on their feet. If you know anyone that is in the Salt Lake City or St. George area, that is in need of help, contact them for information or send them in to see how they can be helped. The garden is an amazing undertaking. If you like fresh vegetables this place can take your order or you can check your local farmers market for them. You can look up their next event to see where they will be next. It all goes to a worthy cause to help the homeless and those in need. For you caffeine junkies, Switchpoint Coffee just opened at 214 N. 1000 East St. George, Ut. This also contributes to the cause.

Our Next stop was apparently very popular. Upon arriving home from our trip it seems that a lot of people we know had been there this same weekend. It was strange that we didn't run into anyone that we knew! The place I am talking about is called Gunlock State Park Reservoir & Falls. There was a ten dollar entry fee per car, to see the falls or the reservoir. When the falls are running with water, it is really cool to see them in person.

After a busy day in St. George, Ut. We headed out the next day at 5:00 a.m. and our son was not disappointed, first visit to the "Golden Arches" in southern Utah!

Bryson finally made it to Southern Utah Golden Arches.

This was a first for me, as a photographer. I've always wanted to go see the Grand Canyon. I am not a fan of the heat, however and I have avoided going there thus far. It has been a very cold winter and I was hoping that we could stop and the crowds would be small.

We made it to Arizona!

We stopped off for a quick bite to eat just outside the main park. I highly recommend the pizza! Then it was off to Mesa, Az. We stayed at my sister-in-laws home and they are such a fun family to spend spring break with!

While we were there I was able to take senior portraits for their middle son Chris Hudson. If you are on Instagram give him a follow; @chrishudsonmusic or check him out on Spotify or Apple music. He has recently released 4 tracks and they are so good. Plus, he just released a music video on YouTube. The link is down below.

Great Wolf Lodge, in Scottsdale, Az. was amazing! I have never stayed there overnight, but we played there for the day. They had rock walls to climb, ropes courses to traverse and splashing in the pool area. This place was a lot of fun for all of us, because there was something for everyone.

We had such a great trip, it really was so much fun! We packed it full of adventures. We got out of Arizona, before the temperatures creeped up over the 70's. I love being home to see the snow covered mountains and low 60's with more snow in the forecast. Spring will come soon enough to Utah, because the ground hog said so!

Inside joke, as my birthday is on Ground Hogs Day. It should be a paid holiday, because they are noble creatures! lol

Be sure to come back soon to enjoy new images.
