Co-Ops Care!
We love giving back to our communities; it's the co-op way! In fact, one of our driving principles is Concern for Community. So this year, Central Georgia EMC (CGEMC) employees held a Turtle Marathon supporting Jay's Hope!
Jay's Hope is a local organization focused on improving the quality of life for children with cancer and their families in Georgia by extending hope through social, emotional, spiritual, educational, and financial support.
The participation rate from our employees blew us away! More than 100 co-workers and family members agreed to walk 26.5 miles independently over 30 days.
Together, we walked almost 7,000 miles and raised $1,580 for families experiencing childhood cancer in Georgia. All of the funds donated will benefit families right here in central Georgia.
Thank you, Jay's Hope, for all you do to support our members during their times of need. Learn more about this outstanding organization at www.jayshope.org.

call before you cut
Did you know that vegetation accounts for nearly 60% of all power outages? Green trees, dead trees, vines, and nuisance growth around power lines all have an impact on service reliability.
Removing trees and branches near power lines can be dangerous. Many homeowners who attempt to prune or remove trees near overhead electric wires underestimate the risk. Before you break out your chainsaw to tackle that tree project, please call CGEMC first.
CGEMC strives to maintain a clean, clear, and safe right-of-way for reliable operation of the electric network. Each vegetation situation on its right-of-way is treated individually. Safety is first and foremost, and our expert Vegetation Management Team follows safety guidelines and uses qualified line clearance contractors for clearing vegetation to minimize service interruptions.
Before you begin to remove existing vegetation or plant something new, take a moment to look up and around to check where your power lines are in relation to your planned work area. When planting, keep in mind that what you plant now may have a future impact on service reliability.
For safety, never attempt to remove anything from power lines yourself! If you see vegetation touching a power line, call CGEMC to evaluate the situation.
Coop news
Service Charge Adjustment Effective October 1, 2022
Effective with October 1, 2022, billings, Central Georgia EMC’s monthly service charge for residential accounts will change from $37 to $40. The monthly general service and commercial accounts charge will also increase by $3. This change is part of a continuous effort to align charges with operational and wholesale power costs.
The service charge covers portions of costs associated with account administration, power distribution, capacity, and other related expenses. Even with this adjustment, Central Georgia EMC remains one of the lowest-cost electric providers in Georgia.

get smart about lighting
During the short winter days, it's great to arrive home to a well-lit home. On the other hand, leaving lights on all day while you're gone wastes energy and increases your use. Lightbulbs you can control from a mobile app, whether at home or not, are now available.
You can choose from a wide variety of smart lighting technologies for your home, with pricing starting at $15 per bulb. Many of these bulbs may be connected to home automation systems like Amazon Alexa or Google Nest, allowing you to control your lighting and temperature from a single app.
