what's different this time?
challenges
- Park Elementary has outlived its useful life and requires major building system replacements, the cost for which exceeds the Minnesota Department of Education’s 60% threshold used to determine when to renovate vs. build new
- Safety and security concerns at the building entrance and bus and parent drop-off areas to reduce the potential for a dangerous situation with our students and staff
- In the 2021 referendum, significant mechanical and electrical components were identified that have outlived their useful life and were not being replaced but required replacement
- Lack of space in the Career and Technical Education (CTE) curriculum limits the ability to meet current demands and expand programs
- The District is not able to partner with local businesses through career pathway programs
- Limited gym space for physical education classes
- Limited space for kids during poor inclement weather
solutions
- Build a new PreK-5 elementary school on the Middle School and High School site and provide innovative 21st century learning spaces, safe and secured entrances, and separate drop-off and pick-up areas for the Elementary, Middle School, and High School
- Operational cost reductions of $3 to $4 million during the next ten years by operating a single campus
- New flexible learning spaces that allow for different sizes of group learning spaces
- Replace all original mechanical and electrical equipment throughout the Middle School and High School building
- Renovate and expand the current CTE area to meet current demands to increase and support and learning opportunities for students
- Provide a third station at the new Elementary School gym to allow additional space for physical education classes, recess during inclement weather, and to have the opportunity to host different school and community events
