Prom Fashion Ideas By Jazmine Valerio

With a 1920s prom theme coming up, there may be a few uncertainties going through your head about what to wear. Don’t panic. Here are some attire ideas for you to wear on your big night.

Flapper Dress

One type of dress that screams the 1920s is a flapper dress. A flapper dress is a loose dress that leaves the shoulders bare. Some flapper dresses have straps while others don't, so whether you wear straps is up to you. A popular style in 1927 was having the waistline at the hips and the skirt of the dress a little above the knees. The fabric includes silk, crepe, satin, lace or chiffon. Fringe is also a very popular material used on a flapper dress. Add stockings, lots of beaded necklaces, rings and a Gatsby headband to finish your flapper look.

Evening Gown

Besides the flapper dress, another dress that could be worn to prom is an evening gown. These dresses reach the floor and sometimes trail behind the dress, which is the fabric in the back of the dress that is longer than the rest of the dress. This dress is made with embroidery, sequins, beads and rhinestones. The fabric used when making the dress is silk, which gives the dress some shine.

Suits

Something that any suit-loving prom attendee can wear that has 1920s vibes is a suit. Usually, the suit is a three-piece suit. You can even wear a tuxedo to pull off a look from the 1920s. The colors are usually blue or gray or even some with pinstripes. You can accessorize it with a fedora. Leather shoes are the go-to for these types of suits.

Style of Clothing

If none of these dresses or suits fits your style, that’s okay. Different styles could be worn for prom, such as geometric designs on your outfit. Another style is any low-waisted dress with a straight skirt. A type of dress that could be worn is a cocktail dress. Different fabrics that you can wear include chiffon and velvet. If you’re wearing a suit, make sure to have a handkerchief and a bowtie. With these prom outfit ideas, you are sure to have a wonderful time at prom.
